We are seeking a Product Counsel to partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Security, and Go-To-Market teams to ensure our products are designed, built, and delivered in compliance with applicable laws and aligned with our risk tolerance.

This role is embedded in the product lifecycle, from roadmap planning and feature design through launch, customer adoption, and ongoing iteration, and is critical to enabling fast, responsible innovation in a global, enterprise software environment.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Engineering Support

• Act as the primary legal partner for product and engineering teams across cloud, on-prem, and hybrid offerings.
• Advise on legal issues throughout the product development lifecycle, including feature design, data flows, APIs, integrations, and platform architecture.
• Review and help shape product requirements, specifications, and launch plans to proactively manage legal risk.

Open Source & Licensing

• Advise on open-source software (OSS) usage, contributions, and licensing models (e.g., GPL, AGPL, Apache, MIT, dual licensing).
• Support compliance with open-source obligations and guide product teams on inbound and outbound licensing strategies.
• Partner with engineering and security on OSS governance and tooling.

Privacy, Security & Data

• Provide guidance on privacy and data protection matters (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, global data transfer frameworks).
• Advise on product-embedded privacy features, security controls, and data-handling practices.
• Partner with Security, Trust, and Compliance teams on incident response, customer security inquiries, and audits.

Commercial & GTM Enablement

• Support product-led go-to-market initiatives.
• Help develop scalable legal frameworks that enable enterprise sales while supporting self-serve and cloud motions.

Regulatory & Risk Management

• Monitor emerging laws and regulations affecting enterprise software, AI, data, and cloud services, and translate them into practical guidance for product teams.
• Identify and assess legal risks associated with new technologies, features, and business models, and propose mitigation strategies.
• Contribute to internal policies, guidelines, and playbooks related to product development and delivery.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior product and engineering leaders.
• Educate and empower non-legal stakeholders through training and clear, pragmatic guidance.
• Help scale legal processes to support a fast-growing, global organization.

Qualifications

Required

• JD or equivalent law degree; licensed and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction.
• 10+ years of relevant legal experience, with a significant focus on product, technology, or commercial matters.
• Experience supporting enterprise software, cloud services, or developer-focused products.
• Strong working knowledge of:
  • Software licensing and SaaS models
  • Open-source licensing concepts
  • Privacy and data protection frameworks
• Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred

• In-house experience at a B2B SaaS or open-source company.
• Familiarity with database technologies, developer platforms, or infrastructure software.
• Experience with AI/ML, data platforms, or regulated enterprise customers.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, globally distributed organization.

The annual base salary range for this position based in the United States is listed below. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on Neo4j’s compensation practices, job related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and trainings, in addition to geographic location. Based on the factors above, Neo4j utilizes the full width of the range.

In addition to the range below, US employees are eligible for a stock option grant and certain roles are eligible for an annual bonus. Employees in this position are also eligible to participate in the Company’s standard benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401(k), paid time off, and certain leaves of absence.

Annual Base Salary Range for This Role

$260,000—$300,000 USD
