Tech Hiring Report: United States and Canada
As of November 8, 2026, LANDTHATROLE lists 77,037 open tech jobs in the United States and Canada, all taken from employers' own hiring systems: 68,436 in the US and 8,601 in Canada. Software Engineering is the largest field in both countries (23% of US and 25.1% of Canadian postings). In the US, 63.7% of postings list a salary: 74% in states that require pay ranges in job ads and 39.2% elsewhere. In Canada, 46.2% do, including 59.9% in Ontario, where pay ranges have been required since January 1, 2026. 14.3% of US postings and 18% of Canadian postings are fully remote. The median advertised salary is US$180,000 in the US and CA$135,000 in Canada.

Method
Counts cover open tech postings on LANDTHATROLE on November 8, 2026. Every posting comes from an employer's own hiring system (about 28,800 employer job boards on 24 systems, each checked every day); a job leaves the count when the employer closes it. We read up to 500 postings from each board, so the few employers with more are undercounted. The report is rebuilt after every check.
A posting's country is the one it lists, or else the one its location is in. A job open to people in both countries counts in each. Fields are assigned by job title keywords; titles that match no field are left out of the field table.
A posting “lists a salary” when it gives a pay figure or range, either in the hiring system's salary field or written in the job description (we read the first pay range in the text, for example “$150,000 – $190,000 per year”). It counts under a pay range law when its location is in a state or province whose law had started by the report date: Colorado (Jan 1, 2021), California (Jan 1, 2023), Washington (Jan 1, 2023), New York (Sep 17, 2023), Hawaii (Jan 1, 2024), District of Columbia (Jun 30, 2024), Maryland (Oct 1, 2024), Illinois (Jan 1, 2025), Minnesota (Jan 1, 2025), New Jersey (Jun 1, 2025), Vermont (Jul 1, 2025), Massachusetts (Oct 29, 2025), Virginia (Jul 1, 2026); and British Columbia (Nov 1, 2023), Ontario (Jan 1, 2026). Employer-size thresholds differ, so not every posting there is covered. Remote postings with no state or province are in neither group. Shares are shown only for groups of at least 20 postings.
Median salaries use the midpoint of posted annual ranges in the country's own currency, between 20,000 and 1,000,000. A field's median is shown when at least 25 of its postings give an annual range. Median posting age: 45 days in the US, 40 days in Canada.
