Privacy Policy

LANDTHATROLE ("we", "us", "our") operates a job board for the United States and Canada at landthatrole.com. We are based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and, where applicable, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Information You Provide Directly

• Account registration: Email address, name, password (hashed; we never store plaintext passwords)
• Profile & preferences: Job title preferences, work location, salary expectations, skills
• Resume & files: Your CV and other documents you upload to your account
• Job alerts: Email address, job search keywords, location, and frequency preferences
• Insiders program: If you register as an Insider: your name, employer, role, and the introduction message you write
• Referral program: Referral code usage and your referral link activity
• Support communications: Messages you send to our support team
• Payment information: Processed and stored entirely by Stripe. We receive only a payment confirmation token and your billing country. We never see or store your full card number, CVC, or bank details

Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data: Pages visited, job listings viewed and clicked, search queries entered, filters applied, time spent on pages, where on a page you click and how far you scroll (heatmaps)
• Session recordings (only if you allow them): How you move through the site, with everything you type hidden. See Section 6
• Application click-throughs: When you click "Apply" on a listing, we record which job you clicked on (not the outcome of your application)
• Device & browser data: Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, referrer URL
• IP address: Used to derive approximate country and city (not stored long-term)
• Cookies & local storage: See Section 6

Information We Do Not Collect

• We do not collect government-issued ID, social insurance/security numbers, or financial account details
• We do not collect sensitive personal data (race, ethnicity, religion, health) unless you voluntarily include it in an uploaded resume
• We do not know the outcome of any job application you submit through a third-party employer ATS

We use your personal information only for the following purposes:

• Providing the service: Job search, filters, saved jobs, application tracker, job alerts, salary data
• AI features: On paid plans, sending your saved CV text and a job posting to an AI model to write a tailored resume and cover letter; and, in the Chrome extension, sending a screening question and part of your resume to write an answer (see Section 5)
• Job alert delivery: Matching your preferences to new listings and sending alert emails via Resend
• Payment processing: Billing Pro memberships via Stripe
• Referral & Insiders programs: Crediting referral rewards, facilitating introductions between job seekers and Insiders
• Platform analytics: Understanding how the platform is used, identifying bugs, and improving features (via PostHog and Google Analytics)
• Security & fraud prevention: Detecting abuse, bot activity, and unauthorized access
• Legal compliance: Meeting obligations under Canadian federal and provincial law
• Support: Responding to your enquiries and resolving disputes

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not share your resume or profile with employers. You control where you apply.

LANDTHATROLE aggregates job listings from publicly accessible employer career portals and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). The listing content (job title, description, company name, location, salary) is information employers have chosen to make publicly available.

We do not collect, solicit, or store personal data from employers' candidate databases. If a job listing inadvertently contains personal information (e.g., a named internal contact), please notify us at privacy@landthatrole.com and we will remove it promptly.

Two features send your content to a third-party AI provider, Anthropic (its Claude models). Nothing else you give us is sent to Anthropic.

• Tailored resumes and cover letters (paid plans): When a tailored resume is written for you, from a job page or by bulk resumes for a saved search, we send your saved CV text and the job posting (title, company and description) to Anthropic, which writes the resume and cover letter for that job
• Chrome extension screening answers: When the LANDTHATROLE Chrome extension answers an employer's screening question, it sends the question and your resume text to our server, which passes the question and the first part of your resume (up to 4,000 characters) to Anthropic to write the answer

Important details:

• This content is transmitted to Anthropic's servers in the United States for processing (see Section 9 on international transfers)
• Anthropic's API use is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy and their data processing agreement with us. Under our agreement, Anthropic does not use inputs to train their models
• Your saved CV text stays in your account until you replace it or your account is deleted. Tailored resumes and cover letters are saved to your account so you can open and download them again. We do not store the screening questions or answers from the Chrome extension
• You should not upload files containing sensitive third-party personal data (e.g., other people's information)

Types of Cookies We Use

• Essential cookies: Required for login sessions, authentication tokens (via Supabase), and core platform functionality. Cannot be disabled without breaking the service
• Preference cookies: Remember your settings such as saved searches, city preferences, and filter selections
• Analytics: We use PostHog and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: pages visited, searches, clicks, how far you scroll and time on pages. PostHog also shows us heatmaps of where visitors click. Analytics cookies are set only if you allow them (below)

Your Analytics Choice

On your first visit we ask whether we may remember your device and record your visits.

• Until you choose, or if you choose "No thanks": We only count visits anonymously. PostHog keeps a visit id in the open browser tab only, deleted when you close the tab, sets no cookies and records nothing. Google Analytics sets no cookies
• If you choose "Allow": PostHog and Google Analytics store an identifier in your browser so they recognise your next visit, and PostHog may record your visits so we can see where the site is confusing. Everything you type is hidden in recordings, and we never record account, sign-in, resume, admin or employer pages

You can change your choice at any time with Analytics choices at the bottom of every page.

We do not use advertising cookies or allow ad networks to place cookies on our site. We do not use Facebook Pixel or similar advertising trackers, and Google Analytics is not used for advertising.

You can manage or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Do Not Track (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we don't load PostHog and don't send anything to Google Analytics, whatever you chose.

We share personal data only with the following trusted processors, under written agreements that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes:

• Supabase: Database and authentication. Hosts our PostgreSQL database containing account data, saved jobs, job alerts, and application tracker entries. Data stored in US/EU regions. Privacy Policy
• Stripe: Payment processing. Receives payment method details and billing information. Privacy Policy
• Resend: Transactional and job alert email delivery. Receives your email address and the content of emails we send you. Privacy Policy
• Anthropic: AI processing for tailored resumes, cover letters and Chrome extension screening answers. Receives your CV text and job postings, or a screening question and part of your resume (see Section 5). Processed in the United States. Privacy Policy
• Cloudflare: Infrastructure and edge delivery. Our application runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes request metadata (IP address, headers) at its global edge nodes. Privacy Policy
• PostHog: Product analytics and heatmaps, and session recordings if you allow them. Receives usage events and, with your permission, recordings with typing hidden. Privacy Policy
• Google Analytics (Google LLC): Website analytics. Receives page visits, the site you came from, and device and browser details. Privacy Policy

Other Disclosures

• Legal requirements: We may disclose personal information if required by law, court order, or government request under Canadian or applicable US law
• Safety: To protect the safety of our users or the public where we believe disclosure is necessary
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred to the acquiring entity with equivalent privacy protections. We will notify you before such a transfer takes effect

The Insiders program is paused. No new referral requests are accepted. To delete any Insider profile or referral request data we hold, email hello@landthatrole.com and we will remove it.

If you register as an Insider, your name, employer, role, and public profile are visible to job seekers who browse the Insiders directory. Your personal email address is not shared; contact requests are routed through our platform.

Job seekers who send you a request share their name and a message with you through the platform. We facilitate the introduction but are not responsible for communications that occur outside the platform.

You may remove your Insider listing at any time from your account settings, after which your profile will no longer be visible to job seekers.

LANDTHATROLE is based in Canada. Some of our third-party processors (Anthropic, Stripe, PostHog, Google, Supabase) operate servers in the United States or other countries outside Canada.

When we transfer personal data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through:

• Data processing agreements with each processor incorporating standard contractual clauses
• Using processors that adhere to internationally recognized privacy frameworks

By using LANDTHATROLE, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States and other countries, which may have different privacy laws than your country of residence.

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services to you. Specific retention periods:

• Account data: Retained until you delete your account. Deletion completed within 30 days of request
• Uploaded resumes & files: Retained until you delete them from your account, or when your account is deleted
• Job alert preferences: Retained until you unsubscribe or delete your account
• Tailored resumes and cover letters: Kept in your account until your account is deleted. Screening questions and answers from the Chrome extension are not stored
• Payment records: Retained for 7 years as required by Canadian tax and corporate law
• Analytics data: Anonymized and aggregated after 24 months
• Session recordings: Deleted after 30 days
• Security logs: Retained for up to 12 months for fraud and abuse investigation

For Canadian Residents (PIPEDA / PIPA)

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for non-essential data processing (e.g., analytics, marketing emails) at any time
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data
• Complaint: File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta

For California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:

• Right to Know: Request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell
• Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions
• Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information, so this right is not applicable
• Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights

To exercise any rights, email privacy@landthatrole.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. We respond within 30 days (45 days for complex requests with notice).

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• TLS/HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
• Encrypted storage at rest via Supabase (AES-256)
• Hashed passwords: plaintext passwords are never stored
• Row-level security (RLS) on our database: users can only access their own data
• Regular security reviews and dependency auditing
• Minimal data access controls: staff access to production data is limited and logged

No system is 100% secure. If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@landthatrole.com. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by PIPEDA's breach notification rules.

LANDTHATROLE is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 16, contact us at privacy@landthatrole.com and we will delete it promptly.

We comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). We send two types of emails:

• Transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, payment receipts, security alerts): Sent as part of your use of the service. You cannot opt out of these while your account is active
• Commercial / marketing emails (job alerts, product updates, feature announcements): Sent only with your express or implied consent. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any such email or by updating your notification preferences in your account settings

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
