1759 - DevSecOps Engineer

Sigma Defense is seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to join our team in Rome, NY. The successful candidate will be a technically curious problem solver who enjoys automation and learning new systems. This person may not be the team's deepest expert in Kubernetes, Azure networking, Linux, Python, or software development. Instead, they should understand enough across these areas to follow a problem through the entire release process, collaborate effectively with specialists, and determine where an issue needs to be solved.

The ideal candidate can look at a failed deployment and move comfortably between GitLab CI, source code, Linux, Infrastructure as Code, Microsoft Azure infrastructure, networking, and application configuration until they understand what happened.

Requirements

• 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Professional experience in DevSecOps, DevOps, software development, infrastructure automation, release engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Hands-on experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong experience with GitLab CI, including pipeline development, jobs, stages, variables, artifacts, dependencies, rules, and reusable pipeline patterns.
• Experience with or working knowledge of GitLab Components and component-based CI/CD design.
• Experience working with GitOps principles and workflows.
• Professional experience working within Linux environments.
• Software-development or scripting experience and an understanding of modern development practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, including working knowledge of Azure networking and virtualization technologies.
• Experience developing infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, particularly Bicep and/or Terraform.
• Experience with Git-based source control and collaborative development workflows.
• Understanding of modular system design and reusable components.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across multiple layers of an application and infrastructure stack.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience deploying and supporting workloads in Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with Azure Government or other regulated Azure environments.
• Experience with Kubernetes, particularly Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Experience building and managing Docker containers and container images.
• Experience developing automation or tooling using Python.
• Experience integrating Infrastructure as Code into GitLab CI pipelines.
• Experience developing reusable Bicep modules or Terraform modules.
• Experience integrating security scanning and validation tools into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with artifact repositories, container registries, and software-package management.
• Experience supporting release processes across multiple development, test, staging, and production environments.
• Familiarity with Azure networking, including VNets, subnets, routing, private endpoints, firewalls, and DNS.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices within a Department of Defense (DoD) or other highly regulated environment.

Personnel Clearance Level:

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology or related field of study.

Essential Job Duties (not all-inclusive):

• Develop, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
• Build reusable pipeline functionality using GitLab Components and standardized CI/CD patterns.
• Support automated build, test, integration, security-validation, packaging, and deployment processes.
• Develop release automation that enables reliable and repeatable delivery across multiple environments.
• Implement and maintain GitOps-based deployment and configuration-management workflows.
• Work with development and infrastructure teams to integrate software, infrastructure, configuration, and security requirements into automated release processes.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Bicep and/or Terraform.
• Deploy and configure infrastructure within Microsoft Azure through automated pipelines.
• Work with Azure networking, compute, storage, identity, and virtualization technologies supporting deployments.
• Troubleshoot deployment issues spanning pipelines, applications, Linux systems, Azure infrastructure, networking, and virtualization.
• Develop scripts, utilities, and automation to improve release and deployment processes.
• Support modular development approaches that enable reusable infrastructure, pipeline, and application components.
• Integrate automated testing, security scanning, compliance validation, and other quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Work within Git-based development workflows including branching, merge requests, code reviews, versioning, and release management.
• Support deployment and operation of workloads within Linux-based environments.
• Assist with containerized deployment processes using Docker and Kubernetes where applicable.
• Identify manual release and deployment processes that can be replaced with automated, repeatable workflows.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 annually.
