Our technology also powers editions+, a white-label solution that enables publishers to deliver their digital content in interactive ways. Editions+ allows them to build a customizable platform that supports a wide range of revenue opportunities.

We have an opportunity for a Senior IT Systems Administrator role to join our IT Team.

As a Senior IT Systems Administrator, you will join a collaborative and forward-thinking team committed to creating positive impact across the organization. We value a solution-oriented mindset, teamwork, and a willingness to go above and beyond to support our colleagues and continuously improve our systems. This is a hands-on, onsite role based in our Richmond, BC office, with participation in an after-hours support rotation.

In this role, you will:

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

  • Own complex infrastructure issues and provide technical recommendations that improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Implement, maintain, and monitor Windows and Linux server environments within our onsite hybrid data center.
  • Support technologies including Failover Clusters, Hyper-V Replicas, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, VPNs, and Remote Gateway servers.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise workstations, servers, hardware, and related software in accordance with established procedures.
  • Deploy and administer iSCSI, NAS, and other enterprise storage solutions.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery processes, including regular restoration testing and validation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for system and network architecture, configurations, procedures, and related technology policies.

Network & Security

  • Configure, support, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN tunnels.
  • Work with technologies such as Cisco, SonicWall, and Fortinet.
  • Apply security best practices using ISO 27001 and CIS guidance as appropriate.
  • Apply, test, and verify critical firmware, operating system, and security patches.
  • Partner with the incident response team to support server and endpoint security.
  • Monitor and investigate endpoint, server, and infrastructure security alerts.
  • Review Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID logs and respond appropriately to suspicious activity.
  • Proactively identify infrastructure and security risks before they become incidents.

Monitoring, Incident Response & Reliability

  • Monitor server, network, and infrastructure performance to proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Create, maintain, and audit monitoring and alerting as infrastructure and performance requirements evolve.
  • Monitor system utilization, outages, performance trends, and end-user requests, escalating issues to the appropriate teams when required.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation, responding remotely to critical alerts and infrastructure incidents, including server outages, monitoring alerts, and other urgent technical issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical incidents outside regular business hours when required; onsite response may occasionally be needed for rare, high-severity situations.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Use PowerShell and Bash scripting to automate system administration, user administration, and routine operational tasks.
  • Work with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to support infrastructure deployment and management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, automation, and architecture rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to infrastructure and technology improvement projects.

Technical Support & Team Collaboration

  • Provide Tier 2/3 technical support to head office employees, global team members, and digital publishing partners.
  • Take ownership of technical issues through to resolution.
  • Translate technical concepts clearly for non-technical users and help employees develop strong technology and security habits.
  • Mentor and support less experienced IT team members by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and contributing to their technical development.
  • Collaborate closely with a supportive team of technical specialists and cross-functional partners.

You are a great fit if you have:

  • 5+ years of hands-on Systems Administration experience managing and supporting production environments.
  • Proven experience supporting systems where uptime, security, reliability, and data integrity are critical.
  • Strong experience working across hybrid infrastructure environments, including both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Experience administering Windows and Linux environments, with familiarity supporting macOS.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise networking and the ability to troubleshoot connectivity, routing, firewall, and VPN issues.
  • Hands-on experience with security practices such as MFA, patch management, endpoint protection, system hardening, and access control.
  • Working knowledge of security technologies including firewalls, endpoint protection, antivirus, antispam, and related security tools.
  • Experience with IT service management practices, including incident, change, and configuration management.
  • Experience using PowerShell and Bash for automation and systems administration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues independently.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, work across multiple competing priorities, and remain composed in high-pressure or ambiguous situations.
  • A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset and the ability to identify risks and improvement opportunities before they become larger issues.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies, security practices, and infrastructure trends.
  • Strong hands-on experience with IT security operations, including monitoring, incident response, patch management, endpoint protection, and access controls.

Bonus points if you:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Have experience participating in security or compliance audits.
  • Have experience working directly with security, risk, or compliance teams.
  • Have experience leading technical projects or coordinating cross-functional technology initiatives.
  • Have acted as a technical lead or mentor to other IT professionals.
  • Have hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Have experience working with Cisco, SonicWall, and/or Fortinet technologies.
  • Have a strong interest in technology and enjoy continuously improving how systems and infrastructure operate.
