We’re seeking a hands-on, highly experienced, and technically driven individual to join our talented team as ourFirmware Equipment Engineer. In this role, you will develop robust, maintainable embedded firmware that supports reliable and on-time equipment launches. You will translate customer and system needs into clear firmware requirements, develop real-time controls and interfaces, support New Product Introduction (NPI) through the Stage-Gate process, and ensure product readiness through rigorous testing and documentation. Firmware Engineer Global. You’ll work closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Product, Test, Operations, and Service teams to bring new equipment platforms from concept through successful release.

What will you get to do?

Develop Reliable Embedded Firmware

• Translate product and customer needs into clear firmware requirements, interfaces, behaviors, performance limits, and acceptance criteria.
• Develop embedded C/C++ firmware, drivers, communication protocols, and real-time controls for equipment platforms and product variants.
• Apply defensive design practices, watchdogs, and other techniques to meet required timing, safety, reliability, and performance expectations.
• Maintain clear, version-controlled specifications that support product design, verification, and release.

Prototype, Test & Validate

• Accelerate equipment bring-up through prototyping, bench validation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
• Instrument boards and collect reproducible test data using scopes, analyzers, and other engineering tools.
• Troubleshoot integration issues and reconcile test results against models, requirements, and specifications.
• Plan firmware verification, develop test cases, and execute regression and system-level testing.
• Provide traceable test results, logs, and issue-closure documentation to demonstrate readiness throughout the NPI Stage-Gate process.

Integrate Firmware & Equipment Systems

• Collaborate with engineering partners on schematics, pinouts, timing, and system interfaces.
• Validate communications and interfaces including Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, RS-485, and Ethernet/IP.
• Support integration with electronics, motion controls, I/O, and networked machine-to-machine systems.
• Confirm signal integrity, EMC robustness, and fail-safe behaviors under normal and edge-case operating conditions.

Strengthen Software Development Practices

• Support disciplined Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, including requirements traceability, code reviews, static analysis, and continuous integration.
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to improve firmware quality and prevent regressions.
• Maintain disciplined branching, configuration control, and release practices.
• Create technical documentation including design notes, state diagrams, communication specifications, UI specifications, and release notes.
• Maintain source code, builds, and binaries using version control and tagged, reproducible releases.

Drive Cross-Functional Execution

• Partner with Electrical, Mechanical, Product, Test, Operations, and Service teams throughout product development and launch.
• Coordinate cross-functional handoffs and priorities to keep development schedules on track.
• Triage defects by establishing clear priorities, ownership, and next steps.
• Communicate technical risks, decisions, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Help ensure equipment builds and launches remain on time and meet established specifications.

Requirements

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of experience developing embedded firmware with shipped releases in electromechanical products.
• Strong C/C++ programming experience and knowledge of real-time control, drivers, bootloaders, and GUI fundamentals.
• Experience with communication protocols and interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART, RS-485, and Ethernet/IP.
• Working knowledge of Linux for embedded applications.
• Experience with common microcontroller ecosystems, such as Microchip/MPLAB, NXP, or similar platforms.
• Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices, NPI Stage-Gate processes, verification planning, and regression testing.
• Familiarity with Internet of Things (IoT) concepts and implementations.
• Experience with webpage development for embedded applications.
• Experience working with ERP systems; JD Edwards E1 experience is preferred.
• Hands-on, organized, and disciplined approach to managing priorities and timelines.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Salary: $107,000-$154,000

Dymax takes the compensation of its employees very seriously and considers several factors when determining the total compensation package including but not limited to location, market range, skills, knowledge, experience, and abilities. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Dymax salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range. The range listed is just one component of Dymax’s total compensation packages for employees.
