AltaGas - Millwright/Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Terminal Operations (REEF)

AltaGas is seeking a Millwright/Heavy Duty Mechanic to support mechanical maintenance activities at the REEF Terminal. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator, this role will focus on maintaining rotating equipment, performing repairs, and supporting reliability initiatives across the facility.

Your primary focus will be to ensure all work aligns with AltaGas’ Core Values: safety, collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and learning. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

This position is based full-time in Prince Rupert, BC, and follows a Monday to Thursday schedule, consisting of four 10-hour workdays per week.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical equipment across the REEF Terminal, including pumps, compressors, valves, gearboxes, piping components, actuators, and other fixed or rotating equipment.
• Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with approved maintenance plans, manufacturer recommendations, AltaGas procedures, and safe work practices.
• Support equipment alignments, installations, commissioning checks, overhauls, rebuilds, lubrication activities, inspections, and mechanical adjustments to promote safe, reliable, and efficient terminal operations.
• Diagnose mechanical failures using field observations, operating trends, vibration/noise indicators, inspection results, and input from Operations, then recommend practical repair options or reliability improvements.
• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Engineering, vendors, and contractors to plan and execute maintenance work, support outage activities, coordinate equipment access, and minimize operational impacts.
• Participate in safe work planning, hazard assessments, lockout/tagout, permit-to-work requirements, confined space preparation, lifting/rigging reviews, and field-level risk controls before and during maintenance execution.
• Document work history, findings, parts usage, deficiencies, follow-up actions, and equipment condition in Maximo to support accurate work order closeout, maintenance planning, and long-term asset reliability.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, spare parts availability, job plans, maintenance procedures, housekeeping, and field execution efficiency.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with AltaGas safety standards, environmental requirements, maintenance procedures, site rules, and applicable regulatory expectations.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

• Red Seal Journeyman Millwright or Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.
• 5+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance in industrial settings.
• Strong knowledge of rotating equipment and mechanical systems.
• Experience with Maximo and maintenance planning.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Strong safety awareness and communication skills.

Compensation 
This position offers a competitive base salary of $135,000 - $146,000/ year, based on experience, education, and skills. AltaGas also provides a competitive relocation allowance and a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off starting on day one.
