Role summary:
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, ensuring quality through design reviews, and applying cloud-native architecture principles. You will mentor engineering teams, influence technical decisions, and collaborate across functions to translate complex requirements into effective solutions. Your expertise will support continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence, contributing to Walmart’s technology strategy and business objectives with a focus on reliability, agility, and developer productivity.

About the team:

The Trust Model Serving & Governance team within Marketplace Trust develops and manages the AI/ML infrastructure that enables intelligent decision-making across Walmart Marketplace. This team bridges Data Science and production by owning the full lifecycle of ML models that support seller risk, compliance, fraud detection, and trust decisions at scale. Responsibilities include model onboarding, deployment automation, inference infrastructure, monitoring, drift detection, and governance. The team collaborates closely with Product, Compliance, and Platform Engineering to deliver reliable, production-grade, and auditable business solutions that drive operational excellence and innovation.

What you'll do:

• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
• Lead full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
• Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components using multiple programming languages.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote standardization and sustainability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
• Utilize data-driven practices to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
• Drive continuous improvement through innovation, error correction, and knowledge sharing.

What you'll bring:
Proven track record of designing and delivering production ML platform capabilities — model serving, MLOps pipelines, monitoring frameworks, or equivalent.
Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture — event-driven design, Kafka, microservices, API design, and cloud-native infrastructure.
Strong programming proficiency in Java and/or Python — ability to write production-quality code Experience with MLflow, Vertex AI, or equivalent model registry and lifecycle tooling.
Hands-on experience with Spark, BigQuery, or data pipeline engineering at scale.
Background building observability infrastructure — OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and distributed tracing.
Familiarity with real-time data processing patterns.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
