Role summary:
The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads the planning and execution of complex, large-scale technical programs involving multiple teams and dependencies. This role requires expertise in program and risk management, technical design, and stakeholder engagement to ensure timely delivery of scalable, high-quality solutions. The position drives cross-functional alignment, resolves ambiguities, and implements process improvements to optimize outcomes. The successful candidate will independently manage program lifecycles, communicate progress effectively, and mentor team members while maintaining a focus on operational excellence and strategic technology integration.

The Marketplace Tech team at Walmart designs scalable, innovative solutions supporting a vast retail ecosystem. This multidisciplinary group of engineers, architects, and product leaders collaborates to build robust platforms for fulfillment, logistics, and seller experience. Their work spans global supply chain integration, marketplace growth, and customer-focused delivery and returns solutions. Leveraging advanced technology, data insights, and domain expertise, the team ensures Walmart Marketplace remains agile, reliable, and prepared to expand across new business models and markets, driving operational excellence and sustained growth.
What you'll do:

• Define program goals, stage gates, and key deliverables for large-scale technical programs with multiple dependencies.
• Secure commitments for scope, delivery dates, and resources while managing cross-functional dependencies.
• Translate product requirements into technical designs and ensure robust system architecture for scalability and performance.
• Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and manage issues to maintain program progress.
• Drive continuous improvement by implementing scalable workflows and automation frameworks.
• Communicate program status, risks, and impacts clearly to stakeholders and teams.
• Mentor team members on best practices and technical program management methodologies.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
• Proven ability to define and execute large-scale program plans with clear goals, stage gates, and critical delivery paths.
• Strong technical expertise in system design, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and software lifecycle management.
• Skilled in identifying dependencies, mitigating risks, and driving operational excellence frameworks.
• Effective communicator capable of aligning varied stakeholders and delivering clear, data-driven reports.
• Analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Ability to mentor teams and implement scalable, repeatable workflows to accelerate program delivery.

Sunnyvale, California US-11656: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
