Role summary:

As a Distinguished Data Scientist in Marketplace Trust team in Walmart, you will lead the design of Trust focused machine learning systems that help develop customer trust in Marketplace. You will be responsible for defining the right architecture, right ML Lifecycle processes that assess millions of transactions and sellers for real-time and near-real time decisioning. You will be responsible for delivering on the business outcomes. In addition, you will lead the development and deployment of advanced ML and agentic models to solve complex business challenges. This role requires deep expertise in data, feature strategy, predictive anomaly detection modelling, and comprehensive experience in building deep learning models. You will collaborate across functions to drive data-driven decision-making, mentor team members, and ensure scalable, high-impact solutions. Your work will directly influence Walmart’s strategic initiatives by leveraging innovative technologies and fostering continuous improvement in data science practices.

What you'll do:

• Design Trust-Focused ML Systems: Design and develop machine learning systems to strengthen customer trust and improve trust and safety across Walmart Marketplace.
• Define ML Architecture: Establish scalable ML architectures to support real-time and near-real-time decision-making across millions of transactions and sellers.
• Build ML Lifecycle Processes: Define and implement end-to-end ML lifecycle processes, including data preparation, feature engineering, model development, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions and ensure data quality and governance standards.
• Mentor team members on analytical methods, model validation, and best practices to enhance overall capability and innovation.

What you'll bring:

Deep Domain Knowledge in Fraud/Risk/Trust modelling: Extensive knowledge in working and modelling fraud/Risk in an online environment, preferably, marketplace.

Deep Expertise in Machine Learning: Strong expertise in designing, developing, and deploying advanced machine learning models to solve complex business problems.

 Deep Learning Expertise: Comprehensive experience in building, training, evaluating, and deploying deep learning models for complex real-world applications.

 Strong Data and Feature Engineering Skills: Expertise in data analysis, feature engineering, feature selection, and feature strategy to improve model performance and predictive accuracy.

 ML Architecture and Lifecycle Management: Experience designing scalable ML architectures and establishing end-to-end ML lifecycle processes, from data preparation and model development to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

 Real-Time and Near-Real-Time ML Systems: Experience developing ML solutions capable of processing large volumes of transactions and seller data to support real-time and near-real-time decision-making.

 Business Acumen and Outcome Orientation: Ability to translate complex business problems into data science solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes and align with strategic business objectives.

 Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead data science initiatives, provide technical direction, mentor team members, and establish best practices in machine learning.

 Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, product, and business teams to deliver scalable, data-driven solutions.

Bellevue, Washington US-11663: The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00 - $312,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
