Job Description:

The AVP, CAD P&C Accounting and Reconciliation Operations, is accountable for leading the end-to-end delivery of accounting, reconciliation, financial reporting and operational finance activities for Canadian Personal & Commercial Banking and Daily Reconciliation functions. The role ensures the integrity of financial information, strengthens the control environment, drives modernization of accounting operations, and delivers service and operational excellence across a large Finance Operations mandate.


The AVP serves as the Finance Operations lead for CAD P&C Accounting and Reconciliations, accountable for financial integrity, balance sheet governance, regulatory compliance, control effectiveness and the modernization of accounting operations. The role provides strategic leadership across financial reporting, controls, data governance and process transformation while partnering with business, segment finance, risk and audit stakeholders to deliver accurate, timely and well-controlled financial outcomes.


The AVP provides end-to-end stewardship over the accounting lifecycle, including transaction capture, journal processing, sub-ledger integrity, balance sheet substantiation, financial reporting, issue remediation and control certification. The role is accountable for ensuring robust financial governance and maintaining a sustainable control environment that supports the accuracy, completeness and reliability of financial information.


Accountabilities:

  • Own, lead and coordinate financial operations activities across CAD P&C Accounting and Daily Reconciliation functions.
  • Provide end-to-end stewardship and governance across the accounting lifecycle, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, timely and compliant with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements and enterprise policies.
  • Monitor process and control execution (e.g GL reconciliations, Legal Entity Reporting), identify and escalate gaps or issues and develop and oversee the implementation of appropriate remediation plans.
  • Understand key risks, policies and standards (e.g RCSA, EUC, GL, Journal Entries etc) applicable to assigned processes and activities, conduct ongoing risk assessment and ensure appropriate preventative or detective controls are in place to mitigate risks
  • Lead the month-end accounting cycle and related financial and regulatory reporting deliverables.
  • Ensure balance sheet account reconciliations are completed in accordance with TDBG policies and control standards.
  • Oversee the preparation, review and presentation of legal entity financial statements.
  • Direct operational accounting activities supporting a broad range of business transactions and initiatives.
  • Lead implementation of new accounting processes, policies and business initiatives relevant to the key processes owned.
  • Develop and execute strategies to modernize accounting, reconciliation and reporting through automation, digitization and process simplification.
  • Define and monitor SLAs, KPIs and operational performance goals with business, Finance and control partners.
  • Serve as the Finance Operations focal point for accounting and policy-related matters and business escalations
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level communications, analysis and recommendations.
  • Strengthen the accounting control environment through effective preventive and detective controls.
  • Liaise with Internal Audit and External Audit partners and coordinate responses to reviews and findings.
  • Identify and deliver productivity, simplification, automation and cost-efficiency opportunities.

Skills, Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline; CPA designation preferred.
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale accounting, financial reporting, reconciliation or Finance Operations functions.
  • Deep accounting expertise and knowledge of financial reporting, controls and operational finance processes.
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of financial systems, processes and procedures.
  • Proven experience leading transformation, automation and modernization initiatives.
  • Excellent judgment, decision-making, negotiation and influence skills.
  • Strong executive communication, presentation and strategic storytelling capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond quickly in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Proven ability to build partnerships and develop diverse, high-performing teams.
