Job Summary

The Product Manager, Pharmacy Technology Solutions, is responsible for shaping and executing the strategy, roadmap, delivery, commercialization, and continuous improvement of pharmacy management system (PMS) capabilities within McKesson Canada Technology Services. The role combines strong product management discipline with practical knowledge of Canadian pharmacy operations, regulatory requirements, and healthcare technology integration.

This Product Manager translates pharmacy, customer, market, regulatory, and business needs into clear product outcomes, high-level scope, prioritized roadmaps, business cases, pricing strategies, go-to-market plans, and actionable backlogs. The role leads cross-domain teams through influence, manages multiple concurrent initiatives with minimal supervision, and drives decisions and results in situations where requirements or information may be incomplete, ambiguous, or evolving.

The successful candidate applies analytical thinking to decompose complex problems, identify assumptions and dependencies, develop high-level estimates using available evidence and comparable work, and create alignment across business, pharmacy, technology, operations, compliance, sales, customer-facing teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, communicate, and maintain the product vision, strategy, value proposition, roadmap, and lifecycle plan for assigned PMS products and capabilities.
  • Build a strong understanding of pharmacists, pharmacy teams, pharmacy owners, patients, payers, and other stakeholders, and translate their operational needs and workflows into prioritized product outcomes and requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of PMS functionality and end-to-end pharmacy workflows, including prescription processing, dispensing, adjudication, clinical services, inventory, patient records, reporting, and related pharmacy operations, as applicable to assigned initiatives.
  • Assess and shape integrations between the PMS and external systems using APIs and healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 Version 2, HL7 Version 3, and FHIR, in collaboration with architecture, engineering, security, privacy, and partner teams.
  • Incorporate applicable Canadian federal and provincial legislation, pharmacy regulatory requirements, professional practice expectations, privacy obligations, and payer or program requirements into product discovery, scope, prioritization, and release readiness.
  • Monitor the Canadian pharmacy landscape, customer needs, competitive offerings, technology trends, provincial differences, and evolving regulatory practices to identify product risks and opportunities.
  • Develop business cases, including customer and business value, strategic alignment, options, assumptions, costs, benefits, risks, dependencies, high-level estimates, and recommended approaches.
  • Develop and support pricing strategies, packaging, commercialization, go-to-market plans, sales enablement, implementation readiness, adoption, and post-launch performance measurement.
  • Gather, analyze, and prioritize roadmap inputs; translate strategy into epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, release plans, and a well-managed product backlog.
  • Lead cross-domain teams and coordinate activities across product, engineering, architecture, quality assurance, operations, security, privacy, legal, regulatory, finance, sales, customer success, implementation, learning, and support functions.
  • Use negotiation, stakeholder management, and influence to resolve competing priorities, clarify accountabilities, remove impediments, manage scope, and gain alignment without relying on direct authority.
  • Manage multiple initiatives concurrently with minimal supervision, maintaining visibility of priorities, milestones, decisions, risks, dependencies, financial considerations, and expected outcomes.
  • Make timely, evidence-informed decisions when information is limited. Clearly document assumptions, confidence levels, constraints, risks, and validation needs, and revise decisions as additional evidence becomes available.
  • Decompose complex or ambiguous problems into manageable workstreams, identify cross-functional and technical dependencies, and develop practical high-level estimates using expert judgment, assumptions, and comparable prior work.
  • Communicate complex pharmacy, business, and technical concepts clearly to executive, business, clinical, operational, and technical audiences.
  • Drive delivery and measurable results by establishing clear outcomes, ownership, decision points, and follow-through, while constructively holding contributors and stakeholders accountable for commitments.
  • Demonstrate resilience, perseverance, adaptability, and a proactive can-do approach when navigating ambiguity, constraints, changing priorities, and delivery challenges.
  • Build collaborative, respectful relationships and contribute as a strong team player who actively seeks input, shares context, and supports collective success.
  • Monitor product performance, customer feedback, adoption, quality, financial results, and operational outcomes; use insights to guide prioritization and continuous improvement.

Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy management system functionality and Canadian community pharmacy operations and workflows.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian pharmacy landscape, including provincial differences in pharmacy practice, pharmacy services, public and private payer environments, and market dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of applicable provincial legislation, pharmacy regulatory practices, privacy requirements, and professional standards in Canada, with the ability to assess their product implications.
  • Knowledge of system integration using APIs and healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 Version 2, HL7 Version 3, and FHIR.
  • Strong product management capability across product discovery, strategy, roadmapping, prioritization, business case development, pricing, commercialization, go-to-market planning, lifecycle management, and performance measurement.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile product delivery, including backlog management, user stories, acceptance criteria, sprint and release planning, dependency management, UAT, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-domain, matrixed teams and deliver outcomes through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, stakeholder management, conflict-resolution, and expectation-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives, priorities, and dependencies simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Sound judgment and comfort making decisions with incomplete information while documenting assumptions, risks, trade-offs, and required validation.
  • Ability to create defensible high-level estimates using expertise, assumptions, ranges, dependencies, and analogous work when detailed information is not yet available.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, including the ability to decompose complex issues, identify root causes, evaluate options, and map business and technical dependencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to pharmacy, business, technical, operational, and executive audiences.
  • Collaborative and accountable working style, with the ability to set clear expectations, follow through on commitments, and constructively hold others accountable for agreed actions and outcomes.
  • Resilience, perseverance, adaptability, curiosity, and a proactive can-do mindset in ambiguous or rapidly evolving situations.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience in product management, pharmacy technology, healthcare technology, business analysis, pharmacy operations, or a related role.
  • Experience owning or contributing to the strategy, definition, delivery, launch, and performance of complex software products or platforms.
  • Experience working with pharmacy management systems, Canadian pharmacy operations, healthcare integrations, or regulated healthcare technology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing product roadmaps, business cases, pricing or commercialization recommendations, and go-to-market or launch-readiness plans.
  • Experience collaborating across business and technology domains and working with internal partners, customers, vendors, or external integration partners.
