What You'll Accomplish With Us

As an Underwriting Consultant, Advanced Cases, you will be at the center of our mission. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Assess complex life insurance, critical illness, and disability insurance applications, applying advanced medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting principles.
• Deliver high-quality underwriting decisions while maintaining service excellence and turnaround standards.
• Collaborate and negotiate with reinsurers, advisors, MGAs, and internal business partners to find optimal underwriting solutions.
• Provide consultation, support, and coaching to underwriting teams as a subject matter expert for advanced and large-case underwriting.
• Share your expertise across various departments and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Work closely with Sales, Financial and Tax Solutions, and other internal stakeholders to support business development opportunities and large-case underwriting strategies.
• Perform preliminary assessments on complex cases and provide underwriting guidance to facilitate new business acquisition.
• Serve as a resource for challenging underwriting situations and provide recommendations on exceptional cases.
• Deliver presentations and training sessions to internal teams, MGAs, and advisors on underwriting philosophy, emerging trends, and guideline updates.

What Could Help You Succeed in This Role

We are looking for someone who has:

• A university degree (Bachelor's) and/or 10 years of relevant underwriting experience, including a minimum of 5 years handling complex or advanced life and health insurance cases.
• ALU designation (an asset).
• FLMI designation (an asset).
• Advanced proficiency in English, as the incumbent will be required to communicate daily with English-speaking advisors, clients, reinsurers, and business partners across Canada through emails and phone calls.
• Strong knowledge of medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting principles.
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
• The ability to explain and discuss complex underwriting concepts using professional expertise.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
• A client- and advisor-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong planning, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

The typical hiring range for this position is between 80,276 CAD and 115,371 CAD; base salary may vary depending on knowledge, skills, years of experience, and internal equity.
