Your Opportunity

One Temporary Full-Time Position Commencing May 2027

Capital Power is seeking an innovative, results-oriented student to join the Data Centre Solutions team, which is responsible for data center power marketing and origination efforts across our diversified natural gas generation fleet. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and has a strong interest in energy and data centers. 

As the Summer Student, Data Centre Solutions, you will support efforts to commercialize power solutions for data centers. Reporting to the Analysts on the team, you will contribute to identifying, analyzing, and advancing origination opportunities while providing insights and technical expertise to inform strategic decisions. 

What You'll Do:

Market Research & Customer Engagement: 

• Draft and refine customer-facing materials, including proposals, presentations, and contracts.

• Collaborate with internal teams (Commercial, Operations, Regulatory, Government Relations, Engineering, Investor Relations) to address customer, institutional investor, and internal inquiries and provide accurate insights related to data center development.

• Analyze customer and market data to generate actionable insights or reports for business development.

• Conduct market research on trends, regulatory changes, and emerging opportunities in U.S. and Canadian energy and data center business sectors.

• Maintain and update databases of customer information, market trends, and deal opportunities.

• Participate in customer calls and assist with meeting preparation, follow-up, and documentation.

Site Assessment: 

• Evaluate feasibility of existing assets and land parcels for co-located data centers, considering Transmission and Distribution (T&D) availability, water access, natural gas, and fiber connectivity 

Business Case and Internal Alignment: 

• Review and analyze financial, contract pricing, utility tariff, and tax models used for power contract base case development.

• Assist in preparing proposals, presentations, and business cases for potential deals, ensuring alignment with internal stakeholders and leadership.

What You'll Bring:

Education

• Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, political science, policy & government relations, engineering, or related field. 

• Education or work experience equivalency may be considered.

Experience

• Familiarity and a desire to work with energy markets, power generation technologies, and sustainability trends is an asset 

Technical and Professional Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to translate complex information into actionable insights. 

• Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and deadlines. 

• Experience with financial modeling, data analysis, or research in the energy sector is an asset.
