ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, DATA & SUPPLY CHAIN ANALYTICS

 

SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director, Data & Supply Chain Analytics will establish and lead a decision-grade supply-chain analytics capability for Ionis. This role will serve as the business owner for the Supply Chain Data Visibility Platform, translating data from SAP S/4HANA, SAP IBP, contract manufacturing organizations, quality systems, and other partners into trusted performance measures, actionable insights, and forward-looking decision support.

The role combines supply-chain analytics, supply-chain systems strategy, and manufacturing data governance. Working across Commercial Supply Chain, CMC, Quality, Planning, IT/Data & Analytics, and external partners, the successful candidate will set direction, resolve complex cross-functional data and process issues, and drive adoption of a scalable analytics capability supporting S&OP, manufacturing and CMO reviews, and leadership decisions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the Supply Chain Data Visibility Platform and engage throughout its design, build, validation, deployment, adoption, and ongoing evolution.
  • Lead the Commercial Supply Chain KPI framework, including definitions, formulas, business rules, thresholds, data ownership, source-to-report traceability, and governance.
  • Translate supply-chain and manufacturing priorities into an analytics roadmap, prioritized use cases, business requirements, data products, dashboards, and self-service capabilities.
  • Provide data-driven decision support for S&OP, supply reviews, CMO business reviews, manufacturing strategy, and network decisions, including scenario and what-if analyses.
  • Develop trusted visibility to customer service, inventory health, safety-stock performance, forecast performance, schedule adherence, supplier and CMO performance, capacity, material constraints, release status, and emerging supply risks.
  • Lead business requirements, user training, change management, prioritization, and validation for supply-chain data products on the Ioniverse/Databricks platform; partner with IT and external delivery teams on ingestion, modeling, KPI logic, testing, production support, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish data-quality and reconciliation standards so published information is accurate, complete, timely, consistent, unique, and traceable to source systems.
  • Establish service expectations for critical data products, including refresh timelines, availability, issue escalation, and resolution; partner with IT and data owners to help address recurring issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Define and maintain the supply-chain systems strategy and roadmap across SAP S/4HANA, SAP IBP, Ioniverse/Databricks, partner systems, and future capabilities.
  • Evaluate and sequence complex system and process changes, including portfolio segmentation, geographic expansion, and scaling across products, sites, partners, and systems.
  • Lead data governance across clinical and commercial manufacturing, including ownership and stewardship, master-data change control, documentation, issue resolution, and cross-functional approvals.
  • Build alignment among business and technical stakeholders, communicate complex issues and recommendations clearly, and influence decisions across functions and organizational levels.
  • Establish sustainable operating processes, documentation, and knowledge transfer that reduce manual reconciliation and reliance on individual or vendor knowledge.
  • Change management for this Role will be massive so maybe something like Lead business readiness, user training, and change management for new data products and capabilities and measure adoption

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, operations, business analytics, information systems, data science, or a related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience; or equivalent education and experience.
    • Advanced knowledge of supply-chain planning and operations, including demand and supply planning, inventory, customer fulfillment, manufacturing, supplier/CMO performance, and S&OP.
    • Demonstrated experience translating business processes and complex data into governed KPIs, analytical products, dashboards, and decision support.
    • Experience leading cross-functional analytics, data, systems, or digital-transformation initiatives from requirements and design through validation, deployment, and adoption.
    • Strong understanding of data governance, master data, data quality, reconciliation, lineage, and ownership/stewardship practices.
    • Ability to independently structure complex problems, determine methods and approaches, exercise sound judgment, and deliver practical solutions with limited direction.
    • Demonstrated ability to influence diverse business and technical stakeholders while explaining complex concepts clearly, and lead through collaboration without direct authority.
    • Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and structured problem-solving skills.
    • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life-sciences manufacturing, or another regulated supply-chain environment is preferred.
    • Experience with SAP S/4HANA, SAP IBP, Databricks or comparable enterprise planning, ERP, data-platform, and analytics technologies is preferred.
    • Experience working with external manufacturers, suppliers, logistics providers, and technical delivery partners
