Join Information Strategy and Services (ISS) and help support the technology foundation that enables the University of Colorado Anschutz to advance education, research, healthcare, and service to our communities.

About the Role

The Senior Application & Infrastructure Engineer is a senior member of the IAM and Data Infrastructure (IDI) team responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting highly available, secure, scalable, and resilient enterprise technology platforms. This role supports critical server, cloud, identity, integration, database, and application environments while helping improve reliability, security, performance, and operational efficiency.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, automating operational work, partnering across technical teams, and continuously improving enterprise services. The position also participates in periodic after-hours outage and patching support.

  • Perform application upgrades, patches, configuration changes, migrations, release support, and lifecycle management activities.

  • Monitor application availability, performance, logging, integrations, and service health, and diagnose complex disruptions in coordination with technical teams and vendors.

  • Implement security controls, system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and monitoring practices that support university standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and maintain automation for application administration, deployment support, configuration management, monitoring, and operational workflows.

  • Support backup, recovery, continuity, failover readiness, and restoration validation for critical application platforms.

  • Create technical documentation, standard operating procedures, architectural diagrams, and support resources while providing guidance and knowledge sharing across the team.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills across complex, multi-tier enterprise systems.

  • Experience administering Linux and/or Windows server environments, including configuration, patching, troubleshooting, performance tuning, automation, and shell scripting.

  • Experience supporting cloud-based applications, virtualization technologies, container workloads, and enterprise infrastructure platforms.

  • Knowledge of information security principles, standards, frameworks, and best practices.

  • The ability to communicate complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively across teams.

  • Curiosity, initiative, sound judgment, and a commitment to continuous learning and service excellence.
