Senior Cloud Software Engineer - Pre-trade (Gas & Power Industry)

Job Description

Location: Houston (Hybrid – at least 3 days onsite/week)

Talan is looking for a Senior Software Engineer -  AWS / Python to support a key client in the energy trading industry.

The role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable cloud applications and data services supporting pre-trade, market data, pricing, and analytics. AWS is the primary cloud platform and Python the main development language.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
• Develop backend services and automation in Python.
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs.
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput, reliable ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including services such as AWS S3, Glue, Redshift, Azure Data Factory, and BigQuery.

• Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management, including AWS Glue environments.

• Experience designing and developing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.

• Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms, including ECS and EKS.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS certification preferred.

• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance

Nice to Have

• Experience in energy trading, commodities, market data, pricing, or financial markets.
• Microsoft Azure experience (Alternatively AWS)
• Athena, or Redshift.
• C#/.NET or React or Angular.
• Azure certifications
