Software Manager

Job Description

The High Performance Compute SoC Business team is seeking a Software Manager to lead an engineering team supporting the development of software solutions for ADAS, IVI, Connected Gateway, and Industrial segments. This role will focus on delivering high-quality embedded software solutions with strong emphasis on edge AI, vision analytics, video pipelines, graphics, connectivity, and AI compute acceleration on Renesas SoC platforms. 

The successful candidate will manage a team of application engineers and embedded software developers while continuing to provide technical leadership across product development, customer engagement, proof-of-concept delivery, and technical marketing support. This role requires close collaboration with internal teams including development, marketing, sales, FAE, and other Application Engineering groups, as well as external customers and partners. 

Responsibilities: 

• Lead and manage a team of embedded software engineers and application engineers supporting HPC/HSBD SoC-based solutions for automotive and industrial markets. 
• Define technical direction and execution plans for AI-focused software solutions in areas such as: 
  • Edge AI inference 
  • Vision analytics 
  • Video pipelines 
  • Camera processing 
  • Graphics acceleration 
  • Connectivity stacks 
  • AI compute optimization on SoC platforms 
• Support the development of system-level software solutions for ADAS, IVI, Connected Gateway, robotics, factory automation, data center edge, and other industrial applications. 
• Drive concept-to-product migration by working with product management, hardware teams, SW architecture groups, and customer-facing engineering teams. 
• Develop and oversee Proof-of-Concepts (POCs), demos, reference designs, and evaluation platforms for internal and external use. 
• Provide technical leadership in AI/ML software deployment on embedded SoC platforms, including model optimization, runtime integration, performance tuning, and accelerator utilization. 
• Support customer engagement from a technical perspective, including: 
  • RFI/RFQ responses 
  • Technical deep dives 
  • Solution architecture discussions 
  • POC scoping and validation support 
  • Customer issue triage and escalation management 
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to prepare technical materials such as application notes, workshop content, solution briefs, and customer-facing demos. 
• Establish engineering best practices for embedded SW development, code quality, testing, debugging, performance analysis, and release readiness. 
• Mentor engineers on AI/ML edge deployment, embedded Linux, RTOS, C/C++, video pipelines, and SoC-specific optimization techniques. 
• Work with global teams across Japan, U.S., Europe, China, and Asia to support product development and customer programs. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, Robotics, or a related field. 
• 5–10 years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership or management role. 
• Strong programming skills in C and C++. 
• Solid understanding of embedded Linux and/or FreeRTOS. 
• Experience developing, deploying, or optimizing AI/ML workloads on edge devices is strongly preferred. 
• Familiarity with vision pipelines, camera interfaces, video processing, graphics acceleration, or multimedia subsystems. 
• Understanding of embedded debugging techniques, performance profiling, memory management, concurrency, and system-level troubleshooting. 
• Experience working with SoC-based platforms for automotive, industrial, or edge AI applications is highly desirable. 
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with engineers, product managers, sales teams, FAEs, and customers. 
• Ability to independently learn new Renesas SoC architectures, software stacks, and AI acceleration technologies. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with edge AI inference frameworks, model optimization, quantization, or accelerator-based deployment. 
• Familiarity with automotive software development environments, including ADAS/IVI system architecture. 
• Exposure to functional safety concepts such as ISO 26262 is a plus. 
• Experience supporting customer POCs, reference designs, or technical marketing activities. 
• Prior experience in application engineering, FAE, embedded SW management, or product engineering roles.
