About the role
About the Opportunity:
MarketOnce is hiring a Lead Revenue Accountant to own revenue accounting and customer invoicing across MarketOnce and its companies, eAccountable and ROI Rocket. This senior individual contributor leads accounting for a high-volume, multi-entity billing operation that processes hundreds of invoices each month, including for key enterprise clients who expect exceptional accuracy and professionalism.
This is a hands-on, build-and-fix role. You will process and post invoices yourself while redesigning a manual, multi-step billing workflow that spans five contributors and moves data from our ERP/project management system into Great Plains. You will determine the correct revenue treatment for our agency and research engagements, including pass-through costs, and turn those conclusions into clear, documented processes.
Working with minimal supervision, you will partner with senior executives and team leads across the business to understand how billing inputs are created, resolve problems at the source, and give finance leadership accurate revenue data, reconciliations and projections. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, enjoys untangling messy processes, and takes full ownership of getting revenue right.
What You'll Do:
Invoicing and Revenue Operations (~40%)
- Own the end-to-end customer invoicing process across multiple entities, preparing, reviewing and posting a high volume of invoices each month
- Personally manage invoicing for key enterprise clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and adherence to client-specific billing requirements
- Manage the flow of billing data from operational systems into the ERP, including data mapping, validation and review before posting
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, rejected invoices and data errors, addressing root causes to prevent recurring issues
Revenue Recognition and Technical Accounting (~20%)
- Serve as the subject matter expert on revenue recognition under ASC 606 across retainer, project-based, milestone and performance-based engagements
- Determine the correct treatment of pass-through costs, such as media spend and research panel incentives, including principal-versus-agent and gross-versus-net conclusions
- Review client contracts and statements of work to identify terms that affect revenue timing and classification, such as variable fees, milestones and termination clauses
- Document accounting positions clearly so conclusions are consistent, auditable and easy for others to apply
Process Improvement and Documentation (~25%)
- Assess the current invoicing workflow, which involves five contributors, by meeting with team leads to understand their roles, inputs and pain points
- Redesign the billing process to reduce manual work, shorten turnaround, clarify handoffs and improve data integrity between ERP system and Great Plains
- Build and maintain written procedures and standard operating procedures for invoicing, revenue recognition and related processes
- Identify control gaps and strengthen internal controls over billing and revenue
- Serve as a go-to resource on Great Plains for billing and revenue, resolving system issues and guiding others on its use
Reconciliation, Analysis and Reporting (~15%)
- Reconcile revenue, accounts receivable and related balance sheet accounts across thousands of client accounts, resolving variances promptly
- Support month-end close for revenue, including journal entries, accruals, deferred revenue and flux analysis.
- Prepare revenue projections, forecasts and ad hoc analysis for finance leadership
- Prepare revenue documentation for external auditors and explain revenue treatments clearly
- Share expertise with accounting team members and coach them toward sound conclusions on billing and revenue questions
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant hands-on work in revenue accounting, billing or accounts receivable
- Demonstrated expertise in ASC 606, including applying it to services, agency or project-based revenue and to pass-through or principal-versus-agent arrangements
- Experience managing high-volume, multi-entity invoicing with a strong record of accuracy
- Proven track record of redesigning and documenting accounting processes, reducing manual work and strengthening controls
- Strong account reconciliation skills across a large volume of accounts
- Experience preparing revenue projections, forecasts or financial analysis
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including working with large data sets
- Ability to work independently, take ownership and navigate ambiguity with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills, including explaining accounting concepts to non-finance team leads and gathering information across departments
Preferred experience:
- CPA certification
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and Management Reporter
- Experience moving or mapping data between a project management or operational system and an ERP
- Revenue accounting experience in a marketing agency, market research, consulting or professional services firm
- Experience billing enterprise clients with complex invoicing requirements
What We Offer:
- Competitive base salary: $155,000-$175,000/year
- Flexible vacation policy – take the time you need to recharge
- Comprehensive health, vision & dental insurance
- 401k with company contribution
- Beautiful downtown Denver office with company-paid commuter benefits (parking or RTD EcoPass)
- Opportunity for career progression with plenty of room for personal growth
What to Expect:
- 1st Round: 30-45 minute interview with the Recruiter
- 2nd Round: 45-minute interview with the Hiring Manager
- 3rd Round: Pre-interview assessment and 2 hours of onsite interviews with the Hiring Team
