Senior Planner - Mobility & Public Space - AMENDMENT

As a Senior Planner, Mobility and Public Space, you will lead, develop and implement legislation, plans, strategies, policies, design specifications, strategic frameworks, long range networks plans and bylaws that guide and shape the City's future urban and community development and ensure they align with Corporate strategic goals and values. Primary duties include

• Lead interdisciplinary teams in developing and updating public space and mobility planning policies, network maps, implementation strategies and design standards.

• Conduct research and technical analysis, manage pilot projects and experiments, monitor emerging trends and technologies, prioritize and respond to inquiries and escalations.

• Review proposals, develop and evaluate scopes of work, manage contracted service providers and coordinate interactions between internal staff and contracted technical experts.  

• Prepare and present policies, technical reports, memos, briefings and recommendations to Council, committees and Calgary Planning Commission.

• Provide guidance to non-planners, designers and operators to ensure public spaces and mobility systems are safe and intuitive for end users.

• Develop and deliver education and training content that supports policy, strategy and/or design guidance implementation.

• Respond to high priority issues, politically sensitive situations, media and customer service requests.

Qualifications 

• A degree in Planning recognized by the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or another provincial or territorial institute or association representing the Planning profession in Canada, Urban Studies, Geography, Transportation, Architecture, Environmental Design/Science, Urban Design or related field and at least 6 years of relevant experience OR;

• A master's degree in Planning recognized by the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or another provincial or territorial institute or association representing the Planning profession in Canada, Urban Studies, Geography, Transportation, Architecture, Environmental Design/Science, Urban Design or related field and at least 4 years of relevant experience.

• Advanced knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of policy in at least of relevant policy domain (Walking, Cycling, Goods Movement, Transit, Driving Networks and Road Design, Sustainable Transportation, Autonomous Transportation, Safe Design, Accessible Design, Curbside Management, Plaza Design, Public Space planning and design, Urban Design, Community Planning) is required.

• Advanced knowledge in more than one domain listed above is considered an asset.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to address a wide range of audiences.

• Skills in relationship building in a large municipal environment and with the development industry, political acumen related to mobility and public space issues, and facilitating development of solutions to complex problems.

• This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

• Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $48.54 - 64.88 per hour
• Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
• Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
