Senior Manager of Software Engineering

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer & Community Banking – Cash and Check Management Tech Team, you serve in a leadership role, providing technical coaching and advisory while anticipating the needs and potential dependencies of other functions across the firm.

Job Responsibilities 

• Own the technical integrity and quality of the team's delivery, partnering with Architects on design and with the team on breaking down and estimating complex work 

• Ensure development quality is tracked and continuously improved through practices like unit testing, peer review, and automated remediation of recurring issues 

• Mentor team members to progress their technical and professional skills, and build a team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect 

• Partner with product and business leaders, aligning roadmaps and securing cross-functional buy-in with clear data and trade-offs; frame complex technology and risk topics as business impact for executive audiences 

• Lead cross-team delivery and change through ambiguity, resolving conflict and raising engineering standards for design, reliability, and security 

• Build and integrate agentic AI capabilities, including autonomous agents, workflow automation, and AI-driven decision-making, into CCB products and platforms 

• Champion an AI-First mindset for the team – proactively leveraging AI and automation tools not only for software delivery, but for day-to-day work such as documentation, status reporting, meeting preparation, research, and communications – to increase individual and team productivity 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills 

• Overall 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years of hands-on development experience in microservices development, UI development, and people management 

• Hands-on development experience working with core enterprise-based Java technologies, Spring/Spring Boot, and event-based microservices in an AWS/Cloud environment 

• Experience with distributed systems and cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure), microservices/RESTful APIs, relational/NoSQL databases, and data modeling 

• Hands-on experience with data streaming and messaging frameworks (Kafka, Spark, etc.) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) 

• Demonstrated track record of mentoring engineers on technical growth and on the responsible, effective use of AI-assisted development and agentic tooling, fostering quality, psychological safety, and continuous improvement 

• Proven team leadership and hands-on experience in applying AI-assisted development and agentic AI/automation tools to accelerate delivery and streamline day-to-day work (planning, documentation, research, communications), reflecting a demonstrated AI-First mindset 

• Strong experience in influencing and stakeholder management, with executive-level communication skills to align roadmaps, secure cross-functional buy-in, and translate complex technology and risk topics into business impact 

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills 

• Cloud certification and practical cloud-native experience 

• Expertise across application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines, with proficiency in multiple modern programming languages and awareness of industry-wide technology trends 

• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and its IT systems 

• Experience designing and implementing automation frameworks for CI/CD, including performance testing integration across development, QA, and operations 

• Demonstrated ownership of high-availability, high-throughput systems with clear SLOs/SLIs and cost stewardship 

• Track record leading modernization programs (e.g., monolith-to-microservices or cloud migrations) in regulated environments
