Lead Software Engineer

Carry out critical tech solutions across multiple technical areas as an integral part of an agile team. 

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Chief Technology Office - Engineering Services & Platforms team, you will design, develop, and maintain software solutions that provide inner loop software development tools for over 50,000 developers across the firm. Your work will directly impact the productivity and compliance of our global engineering community by delivering tools and platforms that adhere to corporate policies and standards.

Job responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain reliable, well-documented software
• Ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
• Develop secure, high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
• Participate in code reviews to uphold code quality and share knowledge across the team
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and production issues
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical roadmap discussions
• Document systems, APIs, and processes to support team knowledge sharing
• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
• Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Go)
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Experience with RESTful API design and development
• Understanding of enterprise desktop software configuration across Mac, Linux, and Windows, including how OS-level environment setup and system policies impact developer software tooling and workflows
• Experience with desktop software packaging and distribution technologies (e.g., Homebrew, Chocolatey, apt/yum, MSI/MSIX, Docker, or equivalent), with the ability to scale delivery both in volume and across globally distributed teams
• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices
   

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
• Experience with cloud-based and containerization technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, container management, Terraform)
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
• Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
