Faculty Experiential & Work Integrated Learning Coordinator

This position has an initial appointment of 13 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding.

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus and South Campus, Edmonton. Work also takes place at ALES Research Centres & Facilities and Business Partner Locations (e.g., Edmonton Valley Zoo).

The Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences (ALES) offers students diverse opportunities to enhance their learning through Experiential Learning (EL). EL is a strategic priority for the Faculty and the University as outlined in the Faculty’s 2025- 28 Strategic Plan and University’s Student Experience Action Plan (SEAP). With a focus on connecting theoretical concepts to real-world applications, ALES works with community partners and organizations to deliver programs that provide career exploration and professional development experiences. The Faculty Experiential & Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, who will report to the Director of Experiential Learning, is integral in administering experiential learning programming including course-based activities, co-curricular programs, work-integrated learning, community service-learning, research opportunities, and professional development workshops. They will seek out and maintain relationships within and outside of the University to broaden experiential learning opportunities for all ALES students. The Experiential & Work Integrated Learning Coordinator will also play a key role by assisting in raising awareness of experiential learning opportunities and their value for students.

Experiential Learning Administration

• Provide administrative support for the development and integration of experiential learning within ALES teaching and co-curricular programming.
• Conceive, coordinate, and/or administer new and existing programs such as the ALES Mini- Internship Program (AMIP), including:
  • Coordinate collaboration with program partners.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with community partners and host organizations.
  • Manage the recruitment and selection process.
  • Lead communication and facilitate orientation, safety, and reflection sessions with student interns.
  • Ensure thorough documentation, assessment, and reporting.
• Support connections between faculty members doing experiential learning in ALES and other members of the University community involved in EL, finding ways to share best practices.
• Work with ALES Safety Officer to fully integrate required safety protocols into all experiential learning activities within the faculty.

Student Engagement and Communications

• With support from the Experiential Learning Directors, the Faculty’s Communication Service Partner and the Manager, Student Services, promote the value of experiential learning and engage students in existing or new experiential learning opportunities. This may include coordinating workshops with campus partners such as the Career Centre, Undergraduate Research Initiative, the Faculty of Graduate and Professional Studies, etc. and supporting the work of ALES student associations that facilitate experiential learning and professional development opportunities.
• Coordinate ALES-specific promotion of optional programs such as the Science Internship Program (SIP), ensuring regular communication information sessions and advising.
• Work in collaboration with our Communications Service Partner to bring great student stories of experiential learning and engagement to the wider community.
• Develop avenues to celebrate areas of excellence in experiential learning.

Data Tracking, Assessment & Reporting

• Work with the Faculty’s two Directors for Experiential Learning in actioning strategic development assessment of experiential learning.
• Create and maintain databases for tracking the range of experiential learning opportunities in the Faculty.
• Conduct assessment to collect data and evaluate programs.
• Draft reports to inform reporting for the Faculty’s and University’s strategic plans, program reviews/accreditation, etc.

Other Duties

• Active member of the Options Navigation Network with a specific focus on preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence in experiential/work-integrated learning settings.
• Other duties as assigned to support ALES experiential learning programs.

• Undergraduate degree required; degree from ALES or familiarity with ALES related curriculum and research preferred.
• A minimum of 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in program development, project management and assessment, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
• Confidence and aptitude in communicating and managing relationships with community and organizational partners. As comfortable speaking to the Dean or leaders in industry as speaking to a first year student.
• Excellent skills in public speaking and presentation development.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of experiential learning, including work-integrated learning, community service- learning, or another related area of practice.
• Committed to safety and understanding the balance between risk and safety inherent in experiential learning; able to work with partners and internal audiences to encourage compliance to evolving university and faculty safety regulations.
• Demonstrated passion for working with postsecondary students preferred.
• Good working understanding of University of Alberta services, resources, policies, and culture preferred.
• This position may require travel to off campus sites.
• Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license.
• Must be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, and an annual salary range of $68,940 to $114,943.
