About the role

The Opportunity

The FinOps Engineering Tech Lead will lead the rollout of enterprise cloud financial management capabilities across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and any other cloud platforms that Definity adopts. Operating at the intersection of engineering, finance, and business value, this role will establish transparency and accountability for cloud and AI consumption, translate technical decisions into financial implications, and drive measurable optimization outcomes.

You will lead initiatives related to cloud consumption analytics, showback, chargeback, and forecasting across all business units. You will manage cost allocation strategies and rollout plans, as well as optimization planning and execution to achieve savings targets. This role offers high visibility with business and executive leadership while partnering across Technology, Finance, Procurement, and delivery teams.

What to Expect

  • Own the FinOps strategy, roadmap, execution, and operating model across AWS, GCP, and other cloud providers as required.
  • Lead cloud budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, showback, chargeback, and executive reporting.
  • Analyze consumption and architecture patterns, maintain a prioritized optimization backlog, assign ownership, and validate realized savings and cost avoidance.
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, and application teams to improve workload design, commitment utilization, capacity planning, and unit economics without compromising reliability, security, or delivery outcomes.
  • Establish AI financial management practices for all project and platform rollouts, including but not limited to token, model, API, GPU, TPU, training, and inference costs.
  • Embed cost-tracking mechanisms, anomaly detection, budget alerts, and financial guardrails into provisioning processes, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and architecture governance practices.
  • Collaborate with other teams to guide and implement cloud cost governance best practices.
  • Translate technical and financial insights into clear recommendations that enable senior leaders to make informed decisions.
  • Lead, coach, and develop engineers and analysts while fostering cloud financial accountability across delivery teams.
  • Manage escalations effectively and provide support during extended hours when required.

What You Bring

  • 6+ years of progressive leadership experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, platform engineering, and cloud financial management.
  • Hands-on cloud experience with a strong blend of technology and financial management expertise.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to zoom in on details and zoom out to develop strategic actions.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to drive initiatives to completion using tools such as Jira for planning and execution management.
  • Strong working knowledge of AWS and Google Cloud Platform services, pricing models, billing data, commitment programs, and cloud consumption drivers.
  • Experience managing AI and generative AI economics, including forecasting, allocation, unit-cost measurement, and optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze cloud usage and billing data and convert insights into actionable outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, allocation methodologies, showback, chargeback, and financial governance.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical topics into concise financial narratives, business cases, and executive recommendations.
  • People leadership experience, with strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A university degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • FinOps certification, or equivalent practical experience. AWS or Google Cloud certifications related to architecture, engineering, or cloud financial management are considered an asset.
  • Significant experience in a regulated enterprise or financial services environment.
