About the role
The Opportunity:
The Court Financial Administrator provides accounting and financial reporting services for the Provincial Court, which includes planning, organizing, developing and implementing policies and procedures to comply with government accounting policies and procedures and the Criminal Justice Information Management System (CJIMS).

- Interprets Court orders to appropriately disburse and record restitution monies and bail monies.
- Provides leadership to court offices on accounting operations, including instructing, training, guiding and coaching employees who handle financial transactions.
- Verifies and ensures all daily financial transactions have been deposited and/or recorded by court staff, and investigates transaction errors on monetary and non-monetary reports to properly allocate monies.
Informs, interprets, advises or seeks advice on endorsements made by Judicial Officers by consulting with police agencies, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, restitution coordinator and other court offices in the province for clarification of charges or Orders of the Court.
- Prepares month-end accounting package which includes reconciling the bank account, reviewing month end, ensuring payable cheques are correct, and approving disbursements in CJIMS.
- Investigates, prepares and submits year end write-offs of stale-dated cheques and bail not returned to offenders, and makes necessary adjustments on CJIMS.
Investigates financial adjustments required due to NSF cheques, disputed credit card transactions, re-issuing of cheques, etc.
- Reviews all non-monetary transactions completed by court staff for accuracy, including Fine Option Payments, authorized non-payment, time served, fine write offs and restitution paid directly to victims, and investigate inquiries on late payment fees to update and maintain accounts payable and receivable.
- Recommends accounting procedural changes and provides input into the establishment of new procedures or work methods, including changes in the accounting procedures to CJIMS.
- Purchases office supplies and processes office invoices through GEM.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- A post-secondary diploma or certificate in accounting, supplemented with legal courses and relevant work experience or a combination of education and work experience.
- Knowledge of government policies and procedures regarding purchasing, authorizing payments for purchases made by government officials.
- Knowledge of Financial Administrator Manual (FAM) policies relating to purchasing, Purchase Card Manual and Natural Account Manual.
- Knowledge of all government financial procedures, processes and requirements and legislation related to collection and processing fees collected through the Courts to train staff to ensure compliance with legislation.
- Knowledge of government and Provincial Court policies and procedures in order to provide guidance, information and direction to staff and clients to ensure the correct accounting process and procedures are being followed.
