Maintenance Mechanic

The Opportunity:

The Property Management Team has an opportunity for a permanent full-time Maintenance Mechanic position located in Saskatoon.

As an integral part of our service-oriented team, you will maintain and service facility systems to help ensure a safe and productive environment for our customers and clients.

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

• Performing facility maintenance duties such as operating, maintaining, and cleaning building mechanical and HVAC systems including providing minor repairs to these systems;
• Performing safe and efficient operation of the boiler systems and air conditioning equipment;
• Performing general repairs and preventative maintenance;
• Completing minor construction projects;
• Ensuring facilities and equipment are safe and are meeting operating standards; and
• Completing any additional duties as assigned. 

• Performs a variety of repair and general maintenance activities on buildings, offices, and structures.
• Assists with the maintenance and care of facilities and grounds.
• Operates common hand tools and may operate light to heavy equipment such as tractors with loaders, light trucks, mowers, skid steers, ATVs, chainsaws, power tools, and other equipment.
• Reads blueprints and prepares material lists for repairs and construction of buildings.
• May require heavy lifting, carrying supplies and materials, climbing, and working in physically demanding conditions.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:  

To qualify for this position, the ideal candidate will bring: 

• Knowledge and experience working with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC);
• Knowledge of automated building management systems and Direct Digital Controls (DDC);
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems; 
• Be able to work in physically demanding conditions and perform physical labour, lifting, and climbing; and
• The ability to respond to questions and concerns calmly and respectfully from clients with clear and consistent communication.

The successful candidate will possess either: (a) a 5th Class Power Engineer Certificate, or (b) both a Fireman Boiler Operator Certificate and a Refrigeration Certificate. If there are no candidates who possess these certifications, we are open to having the successful candidate work under the Building Operator while they obtain the required certifications within the first twelve months of employment.

The standard shift is Monday through Friday day schedules; however, the successful candidate will also have the ability to work during evening hours, as well as weekends and holidays to accommodate a shared standby rotation of 24 hours for seven (7) days.

A journeyperson trade certificate and/or skidsteer training would be considered an asset.
