Equipment Operator

The Opportunity:

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Operator for the Puskwakau Section within the Operation and Maintenance Division. You will be part of a team responsible for the operation and general maintenance of the provincial transportation network consisting of roads, highways, and airports. Puskwakau is a camp location within the Prince Albert East District.

To qualify for this position, you will possess a valid Class 1A license. 

• May provide on-site coordination of a crew to ensure daily job assignments are completed.  
• May assign tasks to crew members throughout the day to maintain efficient operations.
• Monitors equipment use to ensure responsible operation, adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP’s), and suitability for the task being performed.
• Operates, services and maintains heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with hydro drum, spinner, snowplow/wing attachments, graders and front-end loaders.
• Performs highway maintenance activities in summer and snow/ ice removal in winter conditions.
• Maintains records and logs of operating hours, equipment repairs, and materials used on highways.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:  

• procedures and equipment operation related to the proper operation, maintenance and service of heavy duty motor equipment (motor grader/tandem truck/loader);
• basic mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, fuel and lubrication systems of heavy equipment; 
• workplace safety and traffic control procedures; 
• occupational health, workplace hazardous materials and dangerous goods policies and practices.
