Boilermaker 2

The Boilermaker will remove, replace, repair, and maintain various piping systems and equipment. Responsibilities include work on soot blowers, burners, dampers, pumps, pressure parts, and other boiler-related components. Candidates should have experience with industrial maintenance activities, equipment troubleshooting, fabrication, rigging, and installation practices.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Industrial Boilermaker experience preferred but not required.
• NCCER Industrial Boilermaker Certification preferred.
• Must pass a Boilermaker Craft Test.
• NCCER Written Assessment or NCCER Certification required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Experience with industrial maintenance projects.
• Experience repairing and maintaining pumps, piping systems, and boiler components.
• Must be self-motivated and safety focused.
• Ability to work rotating schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must provide required tools of the trade.

Position Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, specifications, and work instructions to determine work requirements.
• Plan and execute maintenance, repair, and fabrication activities.
• Remove, install, repair, and replace piping systems and related equipment.
• Fabricate steel components using torches, plasma cutters, grinders, band saws, and other tools.
• Perform minor pipe fabrication and field measurements.
• Prepare piping and steel for welding activities.
• Repair and maintain boiler components including burners, dampers, soot blowers, and associated systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and identify both minor and major equipment issues.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment.
• Hoist equipment and materials using cranes, chain falls, come-a-longs, and other rigging equipment.
• Maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and refinery requirements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• Ability to lead and direct helpers when assigned.

Drawings & Specifications

• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Locate piece marks and elevations.
• Understand specifications and installation requirements.
• Identify symbols and legends used in construction drawings.

Rigging

• Knowledge of safe rigging practices.
• Experience with slings, chokers, chain hoists, tuggers, and related rigging equipment.
• Ability to tie and select appropriate knots for lifting and securing materials.

Pipe & Mechanical Work

• Pipe installation and bolt-up procedures.
• Valve installation and maintenance.
• Proper use of torque wrenches.
• Pipe layout and field measurements.
• Equipment disassembly and reassembly.

Fabrication

• Read and interpret cut sheets.
• Layout and fabricate materials from drawings.
• Execute fabrication activities accurately and efficiently.

Tools & Equipment

Knowledge and experience with:

• Torque wrenches
• Mill Hogs
• Cutting torches
• Plasma cutters
• Chop saws
• Magnetic drills
• Hogan drills
• Grinders
• Band saws

Equipment Operation

• Knowledge of JLG manlifts and personnel baskets.
• Knowledge of rough-terrain and straight-mast forklifts.
• Ability to be trained and authorized to operate site equipment.
• Knowledge of inspections and safe equipment operation practices.
• Ability to signal and flag equipment operations safely.

Math Skills

• Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Fractions and dimensional calculations.
• Material takeoffs and measurements required for craft work.

Certifications & Licenses

Required:

• Valid Driver's License
• Boilermaker Craft Test

Preferred:

• NCCER Industrial Boilermaker Certification

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairways, and work from elevated platforms.
• Ability to work at heights up to 300 feet while utilizing proper fall protection.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including:
  • Hard hat
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves
  • Face shield
  • Hearing protection
  • Fall protection harness
  • Goggles

Work Schedule

• Rotating schedule required.
• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
