Boilermaker 1

Boilermakers are responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, inspection, and testing of boilers, pressure vessels, exchangers, towers, tanks, and related equipment in an industrial refinery or chemical plant environment. Candidates must be able to work safely, read and interpret drawings and specifications, perform rigging and structural work, and execute tasks in accordance with company and customer requirements.
 

Position Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, IFC drawings, specifications, and work packages to determine scope of work, material requirements, and installation procedures.
• Identify tools, equipment, and materials required to complete assigned tasks.
• Recognize jobsite hazards and implement appropriate safety precautions.
• Assemble, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, vats, exchangers, and towers.
• Fabricate equipment and components according to blueprints, specifications, and supervisor instructions.
• Hoist materials, equipment, and tools using cranes, rigging, and other lifting devices.
• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel using transits, levels, laser equipment, and plumb bobs.
• Connect columns, beams, girders, and other structural members using bolts and required connection methods.
• Position, align, and secure structural steel members for permanent installation.
• Pull, push, pry, and fit steel components into place for assembly and installation.
• Cut, bend, fit, and weld steel components using torches, welding equipment, and metal cutting tools.
• Lead steel erection, fabrication, rigging, grid layout, and installation activities.
• Review drawings, details, notes, ECNs, holds, specifications, and cut sheets before beginning work.
• Understand when production work should stop and when an RFI is required.
• Layout material from drawings and cut sheets and perform field fabrication as required.
• Line out helpers and crew members and execute work safely and efficiently.
• Use and maintain specialty tools including torque wrenches, skidmores, torque guns, mag drills, and Hogan drills.
• Perform basic welding activities and equipment setup.
• Operate cutting torches safely and understand proper setup, maintenance, and tip selection.
• Work around and assist with cranes, JLG man lifts, aerial lifts, and other equipment.
• Perform basic equipment inspections and maintenance activities.
• Follow safe lifting, rigging, signaling, flagging, and material handling procedures.
• Tie knots and rigging configurations appropriate for tag lines, lashing, and lifting operations.
• Perform all duties assigned by supervision in a safe and productive manner.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to perform all duties of the Boilermaker craft.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, IFC drawings, specifications, details, and cut sheets.
• Experience with steel erection, fabrication, rigging, and structural installation.
• Knowledge of safe rigging practices, including chokers, slings, knots, and lifting procedures.
• Knowledge of bolting methods, torque requirements, tensioning procedures, and turn-of-the-nut methods.
• Knowledge of tension indicators and the use of Skidmore equipment.
• Ability to understand piece marks, elevations, orientation requirements, legends, and symbols on drawings.
• Experience laying out material from drawings and specifications.
• Experience with specialty tools including torque wrenches, skidmores, torque guns, mag drills, and Hogan drills.
• Basic welding knowledge, including MIG, stick, and gas welding processes.
• Knowledge of cutting torch setup, operation, maintenance, hazards, and tip selection.
• Knowledge of JLG lifts, cranes, man baskets, and related equipment.
• Knowledge of safe operating practices and equipment inspections.
• Ability to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and footage calculations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be willing to follow all company, customer, and project policies and procedures.
• Must be willing to perform any additional duties assigned.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industrial experience involving installation, repair, and maintenance of refinery or chemical plant equipment.
• Previous experience on industrial maintenance or construction projects.
• Current, ROF'd, or former Zachry employee.

Physical Requirements

• Employee will be required to perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and lifting throughout the workday.
• Must be able to talk and hear to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervision, and customers.
• Will use arms and hands to grab, hold, lift, pull, push, carry, signal, and operate tools, equipment, and materials.
• May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and structures and work from elevated platforms.
• Will be required to work at heights while utilizing proper fall protection.
• Must be capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other environmental conditions.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces when required.
• Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, face shields, respiratory protection, and fall protection equipment.

• TWIC Card Required
• Valid Driver's License Required
• Must be able to pass all site-specific requirements
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check as required
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
