Technical Accounting Manager

Clean Harbors is looking for a Technical Accounting Manager to join its Technical Accounting and External Reporting team. This position will be a key contributor to the Company’s technical accounting and external financial reporting processes. The role will be responsible for managing accounting for certain specialized areas, including lease accounting, stock-based compensation, business combinations and goodwill; supporting the implementation of new accounting standards; contributing to the Company’s external reporting processes, including SEC filings; and supporting financial planning and analysis for key corporate departments. The position will also research and evaluate accounting matters as they arise, developing and documenting appropriate accounting conclusions. The role provides an opportunity to work across a broad range of technical accounting, external reporting and financial planning and analysis matters while partnering with business leaders, external advisors and members of the Company’s accounting and finance organization.

• Manage accounting for certain technical areas, including lease accounting, stock-based compensation and business combinations.
• Lead the annual goodwill valuation process in coordination with external valuation specialists.
• Support the Company’s external reporting processes, including the preparation and review of Forms 10-Q and 10-K, proxy statements, registration statements, and other filings related to debt or equity offerings.
• Participate in the annual budget and monthly forecast processes for key corporate departments and the Company’s India shared service center operations.
• Support the adoption and implementation of new accounting and reporting standards, including assessing the impact of new guidance on the Company and assisting with related implementation activities.
• Research and evaluate technical accounting matters as they arise and develop and document appropriate accounting conclusions.
• Lead the preparation of standalone financial statements and statutory audit reports for the Company’s international subsidiaries.
• Participate in special projects and other initiatives that support the Company’s broader business and financial objectives.

• 5+ years of public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience, including experience with technical accounting and external financial reporting for a public company.
• Self-motivated individual with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
• Highly effective written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with relevant experience in technical accounting.
• Experience in Oracle ERP/EPM and Workiva is a plus.
• CPA or CPA in progress preferred.
