Job Description

Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, medical gas and drainage systems in accordance with established procedures. In the event of emergency, must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts.

Job Responsibility

• Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, air and medical gas and drainage systems. Threads, solders, fit and weld pipes.
• Installs, connects, repairs and replaces pipes. Assembles plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
• Maintains fire systems, checking sprinklers and standpipes, etc
• Fits gaskets, seals joints, makes connections using weld, solder, nuts and bolts
• Repairs autoclaves, sterilizing equipment and distilled water units
• Paints, plasters or replaces tile and floor boards, when necessary.
• Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and shop.
• Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

• High school diploma or GED, required. Vocational high school graduate with 2 years plumbing courses or equivalent, required.
• G38Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate, required.
• Burning and Welding Certificate, required.
• Minimum of two (2) years general experience as plumber or steamfitter, required.
• Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers, required.
• Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes. Ability to read blueprints and schematics in accordance with NYC Code. Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas, required. Computer literacy preferred.
• Valid Certificate of Fitness – S-12/S-13/G-60/F-60/P-98 – strongly preferred
• Experience with high pressure boilers – strongly preferred
