Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Principal GIS Management Consultant to assist Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers with tasks associated with water infrastructure project work. This role offers flexibility and can be based out of any Arcadis office across the United States.

As part of our data management and GIS team, you’ll work across multiple teams to lead water utility projects with practical, data-focused solutions. This is an experienced GIS professional and data engineer opportunity for someone with strong SQL and Python skills who is eager to innovate and teach their skillset to junior staff. Projects are centered on helping large utility clients modernize and improve digital solutions through data pipelines, database enhancements, and process automation.

Role accountabilities:

As a Principal GIS Management Consultant, you will provide strategic, technical, and delivery leadership across complex data management and GIS initiatives for utility clients. You will:

• Serve as a trusted advisor to project and client stakeholders, translating business priorities into practical data management, GIS, and digital transformation strategies.
• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex, multidisciplinary data and GIS programs, establishing scope, technical approach, governance, quality standards, schedules, and delivery expectations.
• Provide technical direction and oversight for enterprise data architecture, data pipelines, database enhancements, system integrations, APIs, analytics, and process automation using T-SQL, Python, and related technologies.
• Guide data governance, quality management, validation, security, documentation, and lifecycle practices to improve the reliability and long-term value of client data assets.
• Direct technical reviews, identify and manage delivery risks, resolve complex issues, and ensure that solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with client needs and industry practices.
• Lead client workshops, executive briefings, and decision-making sessions, and prepare clear, client-ready recommendations, road maps, implementation plans, and technical documentation.
• Mentor and develop technical staff, promote knowledge sharing and consistent delivery practices, and help build organizational capability in data management, GIS, and automation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, geographic information systems, information systems, or a related STEM field.
• 15 or more years of progressively responsible experience in data management, GIS, data engineering, analytics, systems integration, or related consulting and technology work.

Key Skills and Attributes:

• Demonstrated experience leading complex data and technology initiatives for utility, infrastructure, engineering, or other asset-intensive organizations.
• Advanced experience designing, reviewing, and governing solutions that use T-SQL, Python, relational databases, ETL processes, APIs, system integrations, and automation.
• Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams, including technical oversight, quality assurance, risk management, mentoring, and delivery accountability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive experience with ESRI enterprise GIS platforms and their integration with asset management, work management, engineering, and operational systems.
• Experience establishing enterprise data strategies, governance frameworks, architecture standards, road maps, and modernization programs.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, version control and branching strategies, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software delivery practices.
• A record of supporting business development through client relationship management, opportunity identification, solution development, proposals, scopes, and fee estimates.
• Experience building and mentoring high-performing technical teams and fostering collaboration across disciplines, offices, and client organizations.
• Recognized subject-matter expertise in utility data management, GIS, asset management, digital transformation, or related areas.

These benefits include medical, dental, and vision, EAP,  401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program and optional benefits including wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement.  We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $180,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
