Location: Kansas City, MO
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $23.00/hour — may be higher depending on experience
Travel: Up to 50%
Sign-On Bonus: Eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus after completing 3 months of assignment

Position Overview

Hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.

This position requires strong mechanical skills, flexibility for emergency repairs, and the ability to travel both in and out of state.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related machinery.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Review daily assignments and coordinate repair priorities with the Shop Foreman.
  • Locate and organize parts, tools, and equipment needed for repairs.
  • Complete work orders accurately, including mileage, operating hours, and repair information.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests and communicate issues that require priority attention.
  • Work with the maintenance team to complete repairs efficiently and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain tools, shop equipment, and work areas in an organized condition.
  • Follow all required safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform additional maintenance and repair duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of heavy equipment and/or trailer/crane maintenance experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in two additional technical areas, such as:
    • Hydraulics
    • Electronics
    • Small engines
    • Other related mechanical systems
    • High school diploma/GED plus trade school, vocational training, or equivalent diesel/mechanical repair experience.
    • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
    • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair abilities.
    • Ability to work under pressure, respond to urgent repair needs, and meet deadlines.
    • Good communication and organizational skills.
    • Basic computer proficiency.
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance are a plus.

Travel & Schedule

  • Up to 50% travel, including out-of-town and out-of-state assignments.
  • Must be available 24/7 for emergency calls.
  • Ability to work extended hours when operational needs require.
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.
  • Ability to perform hands-on mechanical work for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Assistance required for items weighing more than 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in outdoor and changing weather conditions.
