As a Director at CrossCountry Consulting, you will be responsible for a mix of client delivery, business development, team leadership, junior team member development, and service as a member of CrossCountry’s leadership team.

In today’s competitive deal market, private equity firms are increasingly turning to operational enhancements as a driver of value creation in their investment portfolios. It is essential for private equity funds to have a portfolio support team, either internally or externally, to guide CFOs as they build scalable accounting and finance functions that support the investment thesis. We are experienced operators who serve as an extension of leading private equity sponsors to drive meaningful and sustainable operational changes across their portfolios.

What You'll Do

• Serve clients within the “Office of the CFO” at private equity portfolio companies, creating a diagnostic framework and enhancing the effectiveness of the finance function.
• Serve as a subject matter expert with deep expertise in the Government Contracting (“GovCon”) industry vertical, working directly with portfolio company management and sponsors to drive financial planning, indirect rate strategy, and compliance-aligned reporting across GovCon investments.
• Lead the development, calculation, and operationalization of scalable wrap rate processes and planning tools across portfolio companies, ensuring alignment with DCAA requirements and contract pricing strategies.  These activities may include:
  • Building and refine indirect rate structures, provisional billing rates, and rate variance analyses to support accurate job costing and profitability tracking.
  • Developing and optimizing planning and reporting tools tailored to cost-plus, T&M, and FFP contracts.
  • Develop bid/proposal pricing support, including rate build-ups, should-cost analyses, and competitive positioning for new business capture.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with portfolio company representatives and private equity sponsors, collaborating with CrossCountry team members to scope, clarify, and deliver excellent client service.
  • Identify new growth and shared revenue opportunities, collaborating with leadership to help expand the FP&A capability offering.
  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of FP&A engagements, including scoping, staffing, client communication, and quality control.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and engagement oversight across concurrent engagements that may include:
    • Forecasting and budgeting redesign.
    • Cash flow and liquidity management.
    • Performance reporting and KPI frameworks.
    • Interim FP&A support roles.
    • Finance function diagnostics.
    • Develop and enhance repeatable delivery “playbooks”, templates, tools, and methodologies to help scale the practice.
    • Identify key industry developments and trends and articulate their potential impact on clients.
    • Contribute to developing and implementing firm-approved, AI-enabled solutions for clients, in accordance with company policies on data protection, intellectual property, and professional standards.
    • Stay informed about emerging AI tools and techniques and collaborate with firm leadership to identify compliant opportunities to enhance client solutions and internal processes.
    • Lead the coaching family by serving as a role model, coach, mentor, and liaison to the leadership team.

What You'll Bring:

• 10+ years of senior FP&A and/or consulting experience, with significant exposure to middle-market, private equity-owned businesses and significant experience in the GovCon space.
• Experience addressing the unique requirements of the private equity consulting environment, including knowledge of the relationship between private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies.
• Experience building and mentoring high-performing FP&A teams and setting standards for them.
• Deep industry experience in the GovCon sector, ideally in the middle-market space, with the ability to serve as an FP&A generalist on select engagements outside the industry.
• Experience bridging technical FP&A skills with hands-on knowledge of DCAA/DCMA compliance, cost accounting standards, and government contract economics.
• Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and operationalizing wrap rates and indirect rate structures for government contractors.
• Strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA audit processes; incurred cost submission experience using the ICE model is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of cash flow dynamics, debt structures, covenant reporting, value creation plans, and exit and diligence processes.
• Advanced financial modeling skills paired with the judgement to keep models practical and decision-focused.
• Strong verbal and written executive communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive decisions.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, with a bias toward action over perfection, and the ability to switch between strategic narrative and detailed analysis.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in leading and implementing best practices to optimize finance functions.
• Knowledge of key technology solutions within the Office of the CFO, including leading GovCon ERP and EPM platforms such as Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, JAMIS, and OneStream.
• Experience with or significant exposure to various data analytics tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Snowflake, SQL, and Python.
• Comfort with AI: Demonstrated ability to responsibly explore and adopt firm-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation.
• Continuous Learning Mindset: Openness to learning and applying emerging technologies including AI and automation in alignment with firm policies and client standards.
• Proven ability to generate leads from a network outside of existing client work.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior team members and helping project teams resolve multifaceted issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Willingness to travel up to 40%. Travel varies based on client preferences.
• Preference for candidates based in DC Metro area.
• U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency status (Green Card) is strongly preferred, given the nature of client engagements, which may require access to controlled unclassified information (CUI), export-controlled data, or government facilities.
