Work Arrangement: Full-Time, In-Office
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Staff Accountant to lead the day-to-day accounting function of a fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial company.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will be the most senior accounting professional on a multi-person accounting and bookkeeping team, responsible for leading the monthly close, managing the P&L and financial reporting, overseeing cash management, working capital, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and accounting controls. This person will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, coordinate and review the team's work, support budgeting and financial analysis, coordinate with outside tax and legal advisors as needed, and continuously improve accounting processes, reporting, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with approximately five or more years of experience who takes ownership, works independently, communicates effectively, and uses technology to improve efficiency and accountability. Service industry experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Manage and analyze the monthly P&L, identifying trends and explaining significant variances to the CFO.
  • Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, bank and cash reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, and working capital.
  • Maintain strong accounting controls, accurate records, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Coordinate and review work performed by accounting and bookkeeping team members.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate with the outside tax firm and provide financial information and supporting schedules for tax filings.
  • Work with outside legal counsel as needed on accounting and financial matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting, internal controls, and workflow efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Approximately five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Proven ability to lead a monthly close and independently manage P&L reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting tax filings and working with external accountants preferred.
  • Experience with working capital management and cash flow analysis preferred.
  • Service industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software; experience with QuickBooks and NetSuite is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable leveraging Claude and other AI tools to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, strengthen accuracy, and enhance accountability, while exercising sound professional judgment and protecting confidential financial information.

Benefits & Work Environment

We offer health insurance benefits, paid time off (PTO) and holidays, and office snacks in a comfortable, collaborative work environment. Our entrepreneurial culture values initiative, fresh ideas, and individual ownership. Team members have direct access to leadership and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact as the business grows.

Growth Opportunity

This role offers direct exposure to the CFO and meaningful responsibility for the company's accounting function. As the business grows, the position has the potential to expand into a Senior Accountant role and broader accounting leadership responsibilities based on performance and business needs.
