About the role

Who We Are Looking For

This role is for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, varied environment and enjoys being hands-on with their team to solve problems and find better ways of working. As a corporate shared service supporting office locations across seven states, dozens of hosted and on-premise software offerings, and three major business lines, no two days look the same. You'll need to forecast and prepare for shifting volumes and cadences of work so that unexpected demands don't derail the team's plans, and you'll build the operating model, structure, and prioritization that lets IT support the business sustainably.

We're a small organization with big aspirations, and this role leads a small, geographically distributed team spread across multiple office locations and remote team members. You'll need to be comfortable leading and building culture across a distributed team. Having recently moved our hosting services to Azure, we're now accelerating tooling and automation to transform IT and Customer Support operations. Bringing an innovation and continuous improvement mindset to daily work, in service of greater scalability, security, and sustainability, is key to succeeding in this role. An even-keeled temperament, with the ability to prioritize objectively across competing planned and reactive demands without becoming reactive or scattered, is essential.

If you enjoy fast-paced days that are rarely the same, want a role that tests your soft skills as much as your technical skills, and want to see the direct results of your work quickly, we'd like to hear from you.

The Role

The Sr. Manager of IT leads a geographically distributed IT team covering network, security, application configuration and support, incident response, and installation and upgrade support for applications, for internal helpdesk for local offices, datacenters, and Azure hosting facilities. The Director is more than a management role, requiring a hands-on approach to deliver daily IT project and support activities, and to identify and drive innovation to execute more efficiently, securely, and timely. The role also leads IT's involvement in M&A due diligence and technical integration as the business grows through acquisition. At the same time, the Director owns the team's mission and roadmap, including setting daily and longer-term priorities, managing budget and vendor relationships, creating a productive team culture within IT and more broadly inside the business as IT is a corporate shared service.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Is technically strong and hands-on, with the credibility to serve as a technical innovator the team can learn from, elevating the team's problem-solving ability rather than just directing it

  • Embraces understanding technology, old and new, at a detailed level to understand performance and risk profiles, and develop IT roadmap plans for continuous improvement and business success

  • Leads the team by example, able and willing to work side by side with team members to investigate problems, identify and implement solutions, and drive innovation to eliminate problems from reoccurring

  • Is capable and accountable to making decisive tradeoff decisions between competing priorities based in a consistent and objective manner to ensure the various priorities achieve success

  • Represents the IT organization's perspective on technical activities occurring across the business as part of the Technology Leadership staff

Required Experience and Skills

  • 7 to 10 years of progressive IT experience, including hands-on infrastructure, SRE, or application management work, not purely management

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience managing hybrid environments spanning cloud (Azure preferred), legacy on-premise infrastructure, and customer-deployed software

  • Leadership in cybersecurity management & response, and corporate governance activities

  • Working knowledge of network administration, security operations, and incident response

  • Experience in forecasting and managing IT budgets, software licensing, and vendor/capex decisions

  • Experience managing distributed teams across multiple locations and functional disciplines

  • Strong data-driven decision-making habits, using metrics to guide prioritization and resource allocation

  • Experience performing M&A due diligence, integration planning and forecasting, and leading actual technical integration of acquired companies' IT infrastructure

  • Strong written and visual communication skills, with experience building executive-level presentations, metrics, and business investment justifications or analyses

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a small or mid-sized PE-backed software company

  • Familiarity with government or regulated-industry software environments

  • Experience with SOC compliance (SOC 1 and/or SOC 2)

What We Offer

  • A collaborative work environment in a values driven team

  • Competitive salary, bonus and benefits, including health, dental, vision insurance

  • HSA and FSA options

  • Paid vacation and sick time

  • 401(k) plan with matching contributions

  • Employer paid short term and long-term disability insurance and group term life insurance

  • The opportunity to support our mission of making a better future one community at a time
