About the role
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, the Intermediate Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis will enable success through partnering with the business and leveraging exceptional analytical skills to utilize data and available systems to support comprehensive financial analysis. Is required to complete multiple business cases, variance analysis and participate in cross functional teams to support decision making. The position has exposure to senior leadership team.
The candidate will communicate clearly and concisely to support the development of TPA’s annual budget, monthly forecasting, and performance measurement of each business unit. The role also supports various financial governance initiatives, monthly management reporting, and special projects as assigned. Must be comfortable to have an in-person presence, deadline focused and ability to work independently.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and present key components of the annual financial budget, monthly forecasts, and profitability of business segments
- Prepare the financial models (P&L by segment) for forecasting, budgeting, scenario analyses and long-range planning.
- Leverage corporate performance planning tool for end-to-end enterprise use.
- Analyze financial performance against budgets/forecasts and prepare various reports in collaboration with business partners for root cause analysis.
- Review ad-hoc analyses to evaluate business initiatives, strategies and cost optimization.
- Review monthly capital expenditure tracking and forecasting with key stakeholders and determine risk and opportunities
- Support monthly and quarterly management reporting through data mining and analyzing financial results, synthesizing key trends, and communicating business insights to senior leadership team
- Analyze trends and identify risks and opportunities to support short and long-term business objectives
- Build rapport and partner with business leaders, developing a highly collaborative and respectful dialogue to support the growth of the organization and delivery of services to our customers
- Coordinate with City of Toronto stakeholders to provide timely monthly, quarterly and annual financials and supporting schedules
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in business or finance, or combination of equivalent work experience. CPA, CFA or MBA preferred but not required.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in financial planning and analysis
- Critical thinker who can challenge the status quo and make recommendations with confidence.
- Self driven with attention to detail and ability to consistently generate a high-quality work product is critical as group analysis.
- Previous experience with financial (i.e. SAP) and corporate performance management tools and systems (i.e. Vena / Power BI)
- Advanced Excel user; able to mine and analyze multiple levels of large data set leveraging macros, visual basics, power pivot and query
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to gather and analyze information skillfully, identify and resolve problems independently and in a timely manner
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
- Able to adapt quickly to change, is proactive and flexible
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills, sound initiative, critical thinking skills and ability to work with minimum supervision
- Possess high degree of professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality
- Excellent relationship building skills to develop and sustain client partnerships as well as working in a cross functional environment.
