This role combines hands-on product ownership, customer advocacy, roadmap and backlog leadership, UX improvement, analytics, QA, and strong partnership with development and cross-functional teams.  This role requires regular hands-on use and testing of mobile and web experiences and occasional availability for time-sensitive releases or customer-impacting issues.

The location for this position can be hybrid or remote in New York or Naperville, Illinois or remote based in any of the following states: Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

This is an exempt hourly position with a range of $105,000 to $125,000.  Starting pay reflects job-related considerations, including location, market conditions, relevant experience, training, and education, to support fair and competitive compensation.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the user experience, platform roadmap, backlog, and priorities across web and mobile instances.
  • Become a true power user and translate customer feedback, reviews, behavior, and analytics into improvements.
  • Partner with development from discovery through release; write clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Improve onboarding, navigation, content discovery, subscriptions, engagement, retention, and UX/UI.
  • Own product QA, release readiness, push and messaging functionality, and post-launch optimization.
  • Manage external development partners, vendors, SOWs/RFPs, and defined growth initiatives.
  • Bring reader motivations and discovery habits to product decisions, helping customers find content and connections that keep them coming back.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years in product management, digital product management, or a closely related role with meaningful mobile/web ownership.
  • Experience working directly with software-development teams to define, prioritize, test, and release product improvements.
  • Strong customer and UX orientation, analytical judgment, prioritization, and product-management discipline.
  • Technical fluency across mobile/web lifecycles, integrations, subscriptions, backend systems, and release processes.
  • Excellent project management, QA, vendor management, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, collaborative mindset with a drive to continually improve the product.
  • A genuine interest in books and reader culture, including how readers discover books, share recommendations, and connect with authors and fellow readers.

Preferred experience:

  • Experience with consumer subscription, membership, content/media, or direct-to-consumer digital products.
  • Familiarity with App Store Connect or Google Play Console, push and in-app messaging, Jira or Asana, and product or subscription analytics.
  • Participation in book clubs, BookTok, Bookstagram, author communities, or book events. Enthusiasm for commercial fiction and genre communities, such as romance, fantasy, or mystery, is especially welcome.

Success in this role:

  • You become the trusted internal expert on the experience and proactively identify meaningful customer and product opportunities.
  • Roadmap decisions are grounded in customer needs, behavior, performance data, strategic priorities, and technical realities.
  • New features launch with strong requirements, QA, measurement, and post-launch iteration—and the customer experience keeps getting better.
