Position Guide and Specification
Manager – Finance, Accounting & Administration
Scope:
Safeguard company assets and maintain good control over the company’s books, records, and accounting system. Manage financial / accounting activities including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, etc. Prepare and review financial statements and reports, and advise management of any issues or opportunities to improve.
Principal Duties:
- Manage Savannah Tank’s accounting function and perform the daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger. This includes recording revenue and accounts receivable, recording expenses such as payroll and accounts payable, and tracking production costs in a custom, job shop manufacturing environment.
- Develop and monitor a set of KPIs for the business and initiate dialog with the management team when performance falls below critical levels.
- Make monthly journal entries related to work in process, depreciation and amortization, accrued expenses, etc.
- Maintain an organized set of detailed records and files to document entries and transactions
- Manage cash and reconcile corporate bank accounts
- File monthly / quarterly state and federal tax statements and reports with appropriate tax authorities.
- Modernize Savannah Tank’s accounting system. Look for opportunities to automate or streamline finance and accounting workflow while maintaining or improving control and accuracy. Reduce the clerical burden within the Accounting function.
- Where appropriate / possible, implement financial controls to monitor and safeguard company assets.
- Prepare annual budgets and monthly forecasts. Analyze actual results against budgets and forecasts and identify variances. Work with management team to understand the reasons for significant variances and, where appropriate, take corrective action.
- Maintain financial oversight and control over Savannah Tank’s operation in India. Review monthly financial statements and transaction details to confirm India’s books and records are accurate and that company assets are well-controlled.
- Serve as Savannah Tank’s lead Human Resources and Administrative officer. Maintain the company’s employee handbook and oversee employee benefit programs, including health insurance, 401(k), etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Background, Skills and Competencies:
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or similar area of study. CPA certification desired but not required.
- At least 10 years’ experience in a managerial / general accounting role with significant background in job costing, percentage of completion accounting, progress billings, and work in process. A demonstrated track record of positive results is required.
- A thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong analytical skills and significant experience using an ERP-based, job costing accounting system. Previous experience with JobBoss a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of MS Office software including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to quickly prepare financial analyses using MS Excel is essential.
- Attention to detail and ability to organize and keep detailed records and work papers.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement processes.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to listen and to work well with others.
- Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment, and to react with discretion under varying circumstances.
- Good general knowledge of business and competition.
- Self-starter; able to work independently without extensive supervision.
