About the role
Remote Position: This is a remote role, with preference given to candidates who reside in Idaho, Utah, or Wyoming, where our dental practices are located.
About Accelerate Dental
Accelerate Dental is a growing dental partnership organization with more than 40 offices across Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. We partner with dentists to help them grow successful practices while preserving their independence, ownership, and unique identities.
Through financial, operational, recruiting, HR, marketing, and other administrative support, we help our partner doctors focus on what they do best: caring for patients and building thriving practices.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for a hands-on, entrepreneurial finance leader who can help build the financial foundation for our next stage of growth.
About the Role
We're looking for a Head of Finance & Accounting who is equally comfortable leading a team, shaping financial strategy, and rolling up their sleeves to get the work done.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who enjoys building, improving, and solving problems in a fast-growing, multi-location organization. You'll lead our finance team, strengthen our financial systems and processes, and work closely with our executive team and partner doctors to drive performance, profitability, and long-term growth.
We're looking for someone who takes ownership, moves with urgency, and isn't afraid to dig into the details. You'll need the strategic mindset to see the big picture and the willingness to jump into the day-to-day when something needs attention. We value leaders who build alongside their teams, take initiative without waiting to be asked, and find ways to make things better.
This role will require looking into the future and strategizing the best platform/technology/team combination to deliver results in a consistent and timely manner.
Just as important, culture and relationships matter. You'll work closely with our partner doctors, practice leadership teams, and internal departments. The right person will be a strong financial leader who can build trust, communicate clearly, collaborate with different personalities, and help others understand the financial side of their businesses.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, help shape a growing organization, and participate in the long-term value you're helping create.
What You'll Do
Lead and Develop the Finance Team
- Lead, mentor, and develop our finance and accounting team, building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear expectations, establish priorities, and ensure the team has the tools and support needed to succeed.
- Lead by example, remaining hands-on and willing to jump in when the team needs support or a problem needs to be solved.
- Identify opportunities to improve team structure, workflows, and overall performance as the organization grows.
Own Financial Operations
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across a multi-site organization.
- Maintain accurate, timely financial reporting and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Take ownership of the month-end close, financial accuracy, and reporting processes, working directly in the details when needed.
- Oversee banking relationships, liquidity planning, and capital allocation.
- Maintain and optimize our financial systems, with a strong emphasis on Sage Intacct.
Drive Strategy and Growth
- Partner with the executive team to develop and execute financial strategies that support continued growth, acquisitions, and market expansion.
- Build financial models, forecasts, and reporting tools that help leadership make informed business decisions.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across our partner practices to identify opportunities, improve profitability, and drive results.
- Help evaluate acquisitions, support financial due diligence, and lead financial onboarding and integration for new practices.
- Build scalable systems, processes, and infrastructure that can support a growing organization without sacrificing accuracy or efficiency.
Partner With Our Doctors and Practices
- Build strong, trusted relationships with partner doctors and practice leadership teams.
- Serve as a financial resource and strategic advisor, helping doctors understand their numbers, evaluate opportunities, and make sound business decisions.
- Provide financial guidance on practice performance, growth opportunities, profitability, and tax-related planning in coordination with appropriate tax professionals.
- Participate in practice board discussions and help translate financial results into actionable recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to solve problems and support the success of our partner practices.
Build for What's Next
- Identify gaps, challenge the status quo, and take initiative to improve how we operate.
- Create financial processes and reporting structures that can scale with future acquisitions and organizational growth.
- Manage relationships with external partners, including auditors, banking partners, and other financial advisors.
- Contribute to broader business initiatives as a member of the leadership team.
What We're Looking For
Experience and Expertise
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience leading, developing, and managing a finance or accounting team, ideally with 5–10+ team members.
- Strong, hands-on experience with Sage Intacct is required. Netsuite and other platforms valuable as well.
- Proven experience in a high-growth, multi-location or multi-entity business environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and FP&A.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Experience with acquisitions, integrations, or a multi-site growth strategy is a plus.
- Familiarity with banking relationships, cash flow management, and capital planning.
Leadership Style and Mindset
- Entrepreneurial and action-oriented. You see opportunities, take initiative, and don't wait for someone else to tell you what needs to be done.
- A hands-on leader. You're comfortable moving between high-level strategy and the day-to-day details. You lead from the front and never consider a task beneath you.
- A builder. You enjoy creating structure, improving systems, and developing processes that help a growing organization succeed.
- Driven and accountable. You take ownership of outcomes, follow through on commitments, and bring a sense of urgency to your work.
- A strong people leader. You know how to set expectations, develop talent, navigate challenges, and bring a team together around shared goals.
- Collaborative and relationship-focused. You can work effectively with doctors, operators, and colleagues with different backgrounds and perspectives.
- A clear communicator. You can turn complex financial information into practical insights and recommendations that make sense to non-financial stakeholders.
- Grounded in integrity. You handle sensitive information with discretion and approach financial decisions with sound judgment.
Dental industry experience is not required. We're more interested in finding someone with the right combination of financial expertise, leadership ability, entrepreneurial thinking, and a genuine interest in helping a business grow.
Location and Travel
This position is based in Utah, and local candidates are preferred. Occasional travel throughout Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming will be required, generally involving monthly day trips to visit our partner practices and work directly with our teams.
Compensation and Opportunity
We offer a competitive compensation package designed to attract an exceptional leader, including:
- Base salary commensurate with experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
- Profit interests or equity participation.
- The opportunity to buy into ownership and participate in long-term distributions.
This is more than an opportunity to lead a finance department. It's a chance to help shape the financial future of a growing organization, build a strong team, develop meaningful partnerships with our doctors, and share in the long-term success of the business.
