About the role

The Director of Product Management / Sceptre Product Manager is the senior product leader responsible for the Sceptre software platform and for maturing Product Management as a consistent company-wide discipline. Sceptre provides shared software capabilities across nearly every major 3dB Labs product, making this role both a product owner for Sceptre and the functional leader who helps individual Product Managers operate as a coordinated portfolio.

This role translates company strategy and priorities into actionable roadmaps, clear requirements, deliberate prioritization, and a repeatable Product Management operating model. Individual Product Managers remain accountable for their assigned products; this role establishes standards, mentors and develops those Product Managers, coordinates cross-product dependencies, and elevates portfolio-level tradeoffs to SLT when priorities cannot be resolved within the product organization.

Key Responsibilities
Sceptre Product Ownership & Roadmap Leadership
  • Own the Sceptre product roadmap, requirements, releases, and lifecycle across the shared software platform.
  • Ensure Sceptre roadmap decisions are clearly communicated to Product Managers, Engineering, QA, PMO, Production, Field Team, and leadership.
  • Serve as the authoritative product voice for Sceptre in leadership and cross-functional planning forums.
Product Management Functional Leadership
  • Serve as the senior functional leader for Product Management across the company, providing direction, coaching, and accountability to individual Product Managers.
  • Establish and continuously improve common Product Management standards for roadmaps, requirements, backlog management, prioritization, release planning, lifecycle decisions, and product reporting.
  • Review product roadmaps for clarity, realism, dependencies, and alignment to company strategy before major leadership decisions.
Cross-Product Prioritization & Dependency Management
  • Maintain visibility into competing product demands that affect shared Sceptre capabilities or Engineering capacity.
  • Ensure individual product decisions do not unintentionally fragment Sceptre or create avoidable downstream impacts on other products.
  • Partner with the Software Technical Lead to align product priority with architecture, technical sequencing, and platform constraints.
Backlog, Release & Lifecycle Governance
  • Own the Sceptre backlog and establish expectations for disciplined backlog management across all products.
  • Ensure bugs, technical debt, enhancements, and feature requests are intentionally evaluated rather than allowed to accumulate without disposition.
  • Partner with QA and Engineering to ensure release scope, regression expectations, known risks, and release decisions are deliberate and documented.
  • Coordinate release timing where Sceptre changes affect multiple products or production baselines.
Customer, Field & Business Integration
  • Ensure Sceptre priorities reflect validated customer problems, Field Team feedback, operational workflows, and company business objectives.
  • Work with Field Team and Business Dev leadership to distinguish broad market needs from one-off requests and convert validated needs into scalable product requirements.
  • Provide Product Managers a framework for evaluating customer urgency, mission impact, revenue opportunity, strategic value, technical risk, and engineering capacity.
  • Ensure product and platform decisions remain connected to intended CONOPS and real operational use.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field; advanced technical or business degree is a plus.
  • Significant product management or technical product leadership experience with complex software, hardware, or integrated technology products, including experience mentoring or leading Product Managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage product roadmaps, requirements, prioritization frameworks, backlogs, releases, and lifecycle decisions across multiple products or shared platforms.
  • Strong technical fluency and a track record of partnering effectively with Software, Systems Engineering, Hardware, QA, PMO, Production, Field Teams, and customer-facing organizations.
  • Experience with defense, RF/spectrum, mission systems, government customers, or other technically complex B2B markets is highly desirable.
  • Current or past US security clearance is a major plus, ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance required.
