Main Line Operator, Backfill Operator

SUMMARY

Works on heavy civil construction projects, specifically with Large Diameter Pipe (30” – 40”), by transferring from one task to another where demands require workers with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Heavy Equipment Operator position include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ability to operate multiple pieces of construction equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Skillfully operate heavy equipment, including ditching, excavating, backfilling, tamping, breaking, running, maneuvering, etc. with minimal disruption to the surrounding infrastructure.
  • Operate equipment on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment; conduct pre-operational checks on equipment; clean, lubricate, and refill equipment as necessary.
  • Maneuver heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions; place, remove or maintain underground utilities as directed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years of experience with deep gravity sewer up to 20ft in depth
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Promote the execution and adherence of the company’s safety program and customer standards.
  • Attend routine safety meetings and inspections; cooperate with the Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses in the worksite.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and fellow employees by interpreting instructions given in verbal, written, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents and drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, correspondence, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak and hear; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
