Senior Accounting Manager

Pierre Landscape is looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Senior Accounting Manager to oversee our day-to-day accounting operations and lead our Accounting Team.

In this role, you will take full ownership of the full accounting cycle, month-end close, and financial reporting while working closely with leadership. You will streamline processes, ensure accuracy in construction job costing and payroll, and act as the right-hand partner to leadership. We are looking for someone who not only owns the month-end close today but has the drive, strategic mindset, and technical depth to grow into our next Controller as the company scales. 

What You'll Take Ownership Of

Accounting & Financial Operations

• Lead daily accounting operations and oversee the full accounting cycle to ensure transactions are recorded completely, accurately, and on time.

• Directly manage and oversee A/P, A/R, Payroll, Contracts & Compliance, and related accounting functions.

• Own the month-end and year-end closing processes, including coordinating and assigning responsibilities to the Accounting Team.

• Process applicable tax liabilities, payments, employee deductions, and prepare adjusted trial balances and supporting documentation for annual financial statements and tax preparation.

• Handle additional accounting matters and special financial projects as needed.

Cash Flow, Reporting & Financial Planning

• Monitor collections, receivables, payables, and overall working capital to support day-to-day cash flow management.

• Assist leadership with the annual budgeting process and monitor company performance against budget.

• Prepare scheduled and as-needed financial reports, variance analyses, and cash flow forecasts.

Construction Accounting & Payroll

• Oversee construction accounting and project financial reporting, including job costing, WIP reporting, and cost-to-complete analysis.

• Review project financial performance and work with operational leadership to flag financial risks and trends.

• Oversee Admin payroll, weekly Union payroll, applicable payroll tax liabilities, quarterly reporting, and monthly union reporting.

• Ensure payroll systems and union compliance reporting are properly maintained and completed accurately and on time.

Audit, Tax, Insurance & Compliance

• Serve as a primary day-to-day accounting contact for external accountants, auditors, and tax preparers.

• Coordinate annual year-end audits and prepare required audit schedules and documentation.

• Assist with Workers' Compensation, General Liability, union, and city audits, as well as insurance renewals.

Lead & Develop the Team

• Lead, manage, train, and develop the Accounting Team, establishing clear expectations, priorities, and deadlines.

• Evaluate department performance and build stronger, more automated processes as the company grows.

• Work collaboratively across departments and demonstrate the readiness to assume broader controller responsibilities over time.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction or project-based accounting strongly preferred.

• 2+ years of experience managing direct reports and leading accounting functions.

• Experience handling accounting for a $20M–$100M construction, specialty contracting, or project-based business is a strong plus.

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, full-cycle accounting, financial statements, and general ledger management.

• Construction job costing, WIP, cost-to-complete, union/certified payroll, and prevailing wage experience preferred.

• Experience supporting financial, Workers' Compensation, General Liability, and union audits.

• Sage 100 Contractor experience preferred; strong Excel, spreadsheet, and reporting skills required.

• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a hands-on "builder" mentality.

• High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
