Form Carpenter

Location: Brighton, MI

Merlo Construction is a growing self-perform commercial concrete and excavation contractor building commercial and industrial projects across Metro Detroit. We’re hiring form carpenters and concrete carpenters who can lay out, build, and set formwork that holds line and grade on footings, foundations, and cast-in-place walls.

Job Locations: Projects throughout Southeast and South-Central Michigan. Daily travel to jobsites is required.

Schedule: Full-time

What You'll Do

• Assist with project layout
• Build and set wood and engineered form systems
• Establish and verify grade using laser levels and transits
• Install rebar
• Operate saws, drills, impact drivers, and other small equipment
• Strip, clean, and stack forms
• Assist with concrete preparation, placement, and raking as needed
• Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and jobsites
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship

Safety

• Safety is the top priority on every Merlo job
• OSHA 10 certification and additional safety training provided
• Weekly toolbox talks
• Work in an open "see something, say something" environment where every crew member is encouraged to speak up about safety concerns

Requirements

Required

• 2+ years of commercial or industrial formwork experience, including walls, footings, and foundations
• Comfortable with project layout, basic math, and geometry
• Valid government-issued ID
• Reliable and punctual attendance
• Professional and respectful attitude toward every member of the crew

Preferred

• Experience with engineered form systems
• Welding and torch experience
• Proficiency with laser levels and transits
• Class A CDL

Equipment Experience

Preferred experience operating or working with:

• Laser levels and transits
• Torches and welders
• Skid steers
• Telehandlers or forklifts

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, formwork, and scaffolding
• Ability to safely work at heights exceeding 10 feet.
• Comfortable with extended periods of standing, bending, and physical labor
• Willing to travel to jobsites across Southeast and South-Central Michigan

Work Environment

Mostly outdoor work in all weather, uneven ground, amid active jobsites, loud equipment, and nearby traffic. Some projects also involve indoor work.
