Lead Data Center Technician (Remote)

Who You Are

You are a hands-on data center technician who can lead a small field crew while staying close to the work. You know how to assign tasks, perform rack-and-stack and structured cabling activities, verify workmanship, and correct issues before they affect the customer or the next phase of deployment.

You bring a disciplined approach to safety, quality, documentation, and communication. You are comfortable working from rack elevations, cable schedules, port maps, drawings, runbooks, and field direction, and you take ownership of clear updates, open items, blockers, and next steps at the end of each shift.

About The Role

As a Lead Data Center Technician / Working Foreman, you will support customer deployments and infrastructure projects in active data center and critical-environment settings. You will coordinate daily work for technicians and helpers while also completing installation, cabling, labeling, troubleshooting, remediation, and cabinet closeout tasks yourself.

This is a travel-intensive field role requiring approximately 75%-90% nationwide travel, extended assignments, 10-12 hour shifts, and occasional nights, weekends, maintenance windows, or critical deployment schedules. Success in this role depends on reliable execution, strong customer-site conduct, accurate records, and the judgment to pause, verify, and escalate when conditions do not match the plan.

Must be based in the United States. This is a Remote role with 90 % to 100% Travel.

Other responsibilities include: 

• Perform hands-on rack-and-stack, equipment staging, cabinet preparation, server and switch installation, cable management, and cabinet closeout.
• Lead daily field activities for technicians, helpers, and subcontractors; assign work, monitor progress, and keep the crew aligned with the plan.
• Route, dress, label, connect, and troubleshoot copper and fiber-optic cabling while following drawings, port maps, cable schedules, and work instructions.
• Inspect work for label accuracy, port correctness, bend radius, cable dressing, cleanliness, slack, photos, test results, and overall workmanship; correct issues promptly.
• Capture serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, completion records, redlines, test results, and issue-log updates accurately.
• Provide clear daily status updates covering completed work, blockers, rework, open items, risks, and next steps; escalate scope conflicts and field conditions early.
• Model safe, professional conduct in secure customer environments, including PPE use, housekeeping, access requirements, confidentiality, and stop-work authority when needed.
• Complete ongoing security awareness training and comply with company policies to the requirements section
• Identify and escalate security risks to the appropriate Executive Leadership Team member and actively contribute to remediation efforts
• Other duties as assigned 

Desired skills and experience: 

• At least 4 years of experience in data center, telecom, structured cabling, low-voltage, or network infrastructure installation.
• Demonstrated experience leading technicians, helpers, subcontractors, or small field crews while remaining hands-on with the work.
• Working knowledge of copper and fiber cabling, rack installation, server and switch installation, cable management, labeling, testing, and remediation.
• Ability to read and apply rack elevations, cabinet IDs, U positions, port maps, cable schedules, drawings, runbooks, checklists, and field instructions.
• Understanding of fiber cleaning and inspection, connector care, polarity, bend radius, VFL/OLTS/OTDR fundamentals, wiremap, and basic copper test concepts.
• Strong quality-control, documentation, communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills, with the judgment to verify before proceeding.
• Valid driver license, readiness for rental vehicles and 75%-90% travel, ability to work extended shifts and nonstandard schedules, and ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds in active jobsite environments.

Pursuant to the NYC Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this position in New York City is $99,840.00–$135,200.00, plus opportunities for bonus and/or commission. Compensation in other geographies may vary. This is a salaried, non-exempt position eligible for overtime pay at one and one-half times the employee’s regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, in accordance with applicable law.
