Chief Technology Officer (Part-Time/Fractional)

BIMM is a Toronto-based agency operating at the intersection of data, technology, and creativity, building high-performing digital products and connected customer experiences for clients across automotive, financial services, telco, and retail. Our technology practice has grown quickly: today it's roughly 60 people delivering close to $13M in direct technology work each year, spanning web, mobile, and backend engineering, QA, and a growing AI practice, in support of some of BIMM's most important client relationships.

Who we're looking for

BIMM is engaging a Fractional Chief Technology Officer to help shape the next phase of our technology organization. Our technology practice is scaling quickly, in size, in the breadth of what we deliver, and in the strategic weight it carries with clients, and we want experienced technology leadership to help design the structure, leadership bench, and operating model that carries us through that growth. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, working closely with BIMM's existing technology leadership team.

This is an active role with immediate impact and a clear place on the team. 

Engagement: Part-time / fractional, 2 to 3 days per week. 6-month initial term, with option to extend. We are looking for candidates (within the GTHA) that are able to work out of our beautiful office space in the Distillery District 2 days per week

In this role you will:

• Shape the structure. Partner with BIMM's CEO and technology leadership team to design an organizational structure and operating model that scales with BIMM's growth, across strategy, roadmap, presales, and delivery.
• Develop leaders. Coach and develop BIMM's existing technology leaders, building their capability and confidence to operate at the next level as the organization scales.
• Strengthen partnerships. Build a strong, senior relationship with BIMM's key technology partners, including our work with Audi RED, and help define how BIMM's architecture and delivery teams collaborate with partner organizations.
• Govern initiatives & client focus. Establish the governance and process that lets BIMM invest in its own technology initiatives while maintaining focus on clients, spanning web, mobile, AI, and emerging technology.
• Support growth. Provide senior technical leadership on new business pitches, proposals, and client opportunities.
• Shape what's next. Partner with BIMM's CEO on what long-term technology leadership should look like as the organization continues to scale.

Success in the first 90 days: 

• A clear view of BIMM's technology organization, its strengths, and where structure needs to evolve to support growth.
• A proposed organizational and operating model, developed in partnership with the CEO and current leadership team.
• Regular working sessions established with BIMM's technology leaders.

Success in the first 6 months: 

• New structure and ways of working in motion.
• A sustainable model in place for balancing strategy, roadmap, presales, and delivery across a growing team.
• A strong, senior relationship established with BIMM's key technology partners.
• A clear recommendation delivered to the CEO on BIMM's long-term technology leadership needs.

Requirements

• Extensive experience leading technology organizations, ideally within an agency, consultancy, or professional services environment.
• Experience leading global teams that blend local, nearshore, and offshore resourcing, and able to advise on evolving BIMM's own model.
• Experience operating in a fractional, interim, or advisory capacity.
• A strong track record managing complex client and partner relationships, including joint venture or embedded delivery models; automotive experience is an asset.
• A leader who develops people as much as technology, comfortable coaching and building senior teams.
• Broad technical credibility across web, mobile, AI, QA, and architecture (BIMM's core stack includes React, Node.js, native Swift, and Kotlin Multiplatform).
• Comfortable operating at the executive table and directly with clients and partners.

The range of hourly pay for this position is below. Please note that the offered rate may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Total compensation range:

$133—$160 CAD
