We’re looking for our next Junior Risk & Credit Analyst. Could It Be You?

Safeguard Questrade’s capital and operational integrity by executing critical risk and credit functions across regular and extended trading hours.

The Junior Risk & Credit Analyst actively monitors real-time trading activity and market conditions to mitigate financial and operational exposure. In this role, the analyst ensures client positions align with established risk parameters, addresses account variances, and proactively intervenes to prevent excessive leverage or speculative overexposure. By enforcing margin compliance and maintaining accurate equity balances, the analyst protects both client accounts and the firm from capital losses and negative equity scenarios.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Monitor Portfolio Concentration: Continuously analyze portfolio exposure to identify and mitigate single-asset or sector concentration risks.

Manage Margin Operations: Issue margin calls and instruct the Trade Desk to execute liquidations or coverage for deficient accounts.

Oversee Proprietary Positions: Track real-time market risk, leverage, and position limits across proprietary trading accounts.

Validate Options Processing: Review and confirm option assignments and exercises to ensure accurate settlement and risk alignment.

Deliver Risk Notifications: Communicate time-sensitive alerts to clients regarding margin deficiencies, registered account (RRSP) negative balances and liquidations

Assess Foreign Exchange Exposure: Monitor cross-currency risk stemming from dual-currency (USD/CAD) account balances and fluctuations.

Mitigate Complex Derivatives Risk: Evaluate multi-leg option strategies and direct the Trade Desk to close out positions posing critical assignment or exercise risk prior to expiry.

Administer Cease Trade Order (CTO) Restrictions: Coordinate with Compliance and Trade Desk to apply and revoke trading restrictions on halted securities and confirm cancellation of open orders ahead of the evening CTO cutoff.

Provide Extended-Hours Support: Act as the primary risk resource for internal teams (Trade Desk, Compliance, Client Success, Sales) during late and extended trading sessions.

Manage Extended-Hours Exposure: Monitor market fluctuations and risk limits during pre-market and after-hours trading sessions.

Drive Ad-Hoc Analytics & Projects: Conduct ad-hoc risk reporting, process evaluations, and departmental optimization projects as required.

Post secondary degree/diploma in related or quantitative field

CSI course completion is an asset (CSC, DFC, OLC)

1+ years of financial industry experience

1+ years experience in Risk

A strong interest in and knowledge of the financial industry

Strong interpersonal skill, ability to articulate complex information in a clear and concise manner

Excellent MS Excel skill and G-suite, Python, SQL, Power-bi experience is preferred

Working towards CFA/FRM designation is preferred

Additional Information…

Fix term contract - 12 months

Hours: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM EST

Compensation Information:

Base salary range: $55,000  - $60,000

The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
