About the role
Product Manager II
About the opportunity
Dayforce is a global people platform with a purpose to make work life better for customers, their employees, and our own teams. Powerpay by Dayforce helps Canadian small and mid-sized businesses simplify payroll, HR, employee self-service, time, reporting, onboarding, and compliance so they can spend less time on administration and more time focused on their people and their business.
As a Product Manager on the Powerpay team, you will own a defined customer problem and product area from discovery through launch and iteration. You will work closely with engineering, UX, data, compliance, customer support, implementation, sales, and marketing to turn customer needs into simple, dependable product experiences. You will contribute to the roadmap, set clear outcomes for your area, and be accountable for the quality and impact of what the team delivers.
This role is ideal for a product manager who is ready to grow their product judgment, enjoys working close to customers and delivery teams, and is excited to build both AI-enabled product experiences and an AI-enabled way of working. You will operate independently within a defined scope while learning from experienced Senior and Principal Product Managers.
Location: Work is what you do, not where you go. For this role, we are open to remote work and can hire anywhere in Canada.
What you’ll get to do
Own a defined product area: Translate Powerpay strategy into clear customer problems, measurable outcomes, priorities, and delivery plans for a focused product area or workflow.
Discover customer needs: Engage with Canadian small and mid-sized businesses, payroll administrators, managers, employees, accountants, bookkeepers, and internal service teams. Combine interviews, product data, support trends, market insight, and operational feedback to identify the problems most worth solving.
Define and deliver solutions: Partner with UX and engineering to frame problems, explore options, define the minimum valuable solution, and create clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and edge cases. Maintain a well-prioritized backlog and help the team understand the why behind the work.
Simplify critical Powerpay workflows: Help modernize experiences across payroll, HR, employee and manager self-service, time, onboarding, reporting, integrations, year-end, and service-enabled workflows. Balance ease of use with accuracy, compliance, reliability, and operational scalability.
Build AI-enabled product experiences: Identify, prototype, and help deliver responsible AI capabilities that solve real customer problems, such as guided workflows, intelligent recommendations, anomaly detection, natural-language assistance, smarter reporting, and automation of repetitive tasks. Define expected user value, guardrails, human review, and measurable success.
Use AI in the product management workflow: Use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate customer insight synthesis, competitive research, data exploration, prototyping, requirements development, backlog analysis, experimentation planning, documentation, and stakeholder communication. Validate outputs and protect customer, employee, and company information.
Measure outcomes and learn: Define success metrics and instrumentation before launch, monitor adoption and product performance, analyze qualitative and quantitative signals, and use what you learn to improve the experience after release.
Lead cross-functional execution: Work day to day with engineering, UX, data, architecture, security, privacy, payroll and legislative experts, support, implementation, operations, marketing, and sales. Surface risks early, clarify trade-offs, manage dependencies, and keep decisions moving.
Support launch and adoption: Partner with customer-facing and go-to-market teams on release readiness, enablement, positioning, customer communication, and feedback loops so new capabilities are understood, adopted, and delivering value.
Skills and experience we value
Foundational product management experience: 2+ years of product management, product ownership, or equivalent product delivery experience. You have helped take digital product capabilities from customer problem through definition, delivery, launch, and iteration.
Customer-first problem solving: Ability to listen carefully, ask strong questions, identify root causes, and translate complex customer needs into simple, practical product experiences.
Product execution skills: Experience defining MVPs, writing clear requirements and acceptance criteria, prioritizing a backlog, working in an agile delivery environment, and making pragmatic trade-offs when time or information is limited.
AI product and workflow fluency: Experience building, contributing to, or prototyping AI-enabled product capabilities, plus practical use of AI in the product management workflow, including discovery synthesis, requirements development, prioritization, experimentation, documentation, and stakeholder communication. You apply sound judgment around privacy, security, validation, and responsible use.
Analytical thinking: Comfort using product data, customer feedback, operational insights, and business measures to evaluate opportunities, test assumptions, and determine whether a release achieved its intended outcome.
Technical curiosity: Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and learn how APIs, integrations, data flows, cloud software, automation, analytics, and platform constraints shape product decisions. You do not need to be a software engineer, but you are willing to go into the details.
Clear communication and collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain customer problems, priorities, decisions, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical partners.
Ownership and growth mindset: You are organized, curious, open to feedback, comfortable with ambiguity, and willing to take responsibility for outcomes rather than only completing assigned tasks.
What would make you stand out
Relevant domain exposure: Experience with payroll, HR technology, workforce management, time and attendance, fintech, accounting software, payments, compliance-heavy SaaS, or another accuracy-critical product.
Small-business experience: Experience building products for Canadian small and mid-sized businesses, accountants, or bookkeepers.
Integrations and data: Exposure to APIs, third-party integrations, product analytics, experimentation tools, SQL, or data visualization.
Responsible AI practices: Familiarity with human-in-the-loop design, explainability, evaluation, privacy, security, bias awareness, or validation of AI outputs.
Canadian market experience: Knowledge of Canadian payroll or employment workflows, or bilingual English and French capability, is an asset.
