Broadcast Systems Engineer, Prime Video Live Sports

Prime Video is seeking an experienced Broadcast Systems Engineer for our Live Sports Production Technical Operations team. This role spans the design, integration, and day-to-day operation of broadcast production systems and the underlying compute and virtualization infrastructure that powers them. You will support infrastructure powering live events across our expanding sports portfolio including NFL, NBA, WNBA, NHL, NWSL, and NASCAR as well as the build-out of new broadcast facilities on our Culver City campus.

You will be part of the core engineering team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a state-of-the-art broadcast campus — working alongside network engineers, broadcast technicians, and architects to deploy and operate the compute and virtualization infrastructure that powers live sports at scale.

As part of the Prime Video team, you will work on projects that are fast-paced, technically varied, and high-impact, with room to experiment with new technology, take creative risks, and collaborate with exceptional people.

Key job responsibilities
- Work as part of a core engineering team responsible for deploying and integrating production systems — collaborating closely with network and broadcast engineers, vendors, and production staff to bring new infrastructure and systems online.
- Manage the full lifecycle of server infrastructure: procurement support, automated provisioning, configuration management, patching, and decommissioning — physical installation and rack/cabling work as needed.
- Administer Linux, Windows, and macOS systems at scale across production, engineering, and post-production environments.
- Maintain a systematic patching program across the full fleet: OS updates, firmware, BIOS, IPMI, application software, and hypervisor components — including patch cadences, testing pipelines, and rollback procedures that account for a live production environment.
- Approach every repeatable task as an automation opportunity — building scripts, pipelines, and tooling that eliminate manual work, reduce human error, and scale operations as our fleet grows.
- Manage and maintain Proxmox VE hypervisor clusters; deploy, configure, and lifecycle-manage remote machines supporting broadcast applications, media services, backend services, control systems, and engineering tools.
- Maintain and continuously improve a monitoring and alerting platform covering all infrastructure layers — compute, virtualization, storage, network, and broadcast systems — integrating telemetry via APIs, Syslog, SNMP with dashboards, threshold alerting, anomaly detection, and on-call escalation paths.
- Manage and maintain records for all infrastructure assets, including physical servers, network hardware, remote machines, and associated IP address space.
- Provide on-call technical support during live broadcast events; rapidly triage and resolve on-air incidents across the full infrastructure stack.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation including as-built drawings, system designs, VM inventories, provisioning runbooks, and change records.
- Approach all system design and implementation with a security-first mindset — collaborating with Amazon Security on architecture reviews, patching compliance, and vulnerability remediation.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Broadcast Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in broadcast systems engineering within live production or media infrastructure environments
- Linux, Windows and macOS system administration experience at scale
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise hypervisor platforms - Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere, or equivalent - including VM and container lifecycle, storage configuration, and HA management
- Experience provisioning and maintaining bare metal servers: IPMI/iDRAC/iLO, BIOS management, RAID configuration, and hardware troubleshooting
- Practical scripting and automation experience (Bash, Python, Node.js, or equivalent) applied to infrastructure tasks
- Solid broadcast networking fundamentals: IP addressing, VLANs, network segmentation, multicast, basic L3 routing
- Experience configuring and maintaining infrastructure monitoring and alerting platforms (i.e. Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix, Nagios, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of broadcast signal formats and transport methods such as SDI (HD/3G/12G), IP media transport (ST 2110, SRT, JPEG-XS), or AoIP/embedded audio (AES67, Dante, embedded/analog audio, timecode, and ancillary data)

Preferred qualifications

- Hands-on experience supporting ST 2110 and NMOS-based IP production environments.
- Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.
- Experience administering Active Directory: user and group management, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP integration, and OU structure for production environments.
- Experience supporting or working in live broadcast control room environments with systems such as production switchers, routing systems, multiviewers, replay, graphics, and playout.
- AWS administration experience: EC2, IAM, VPC, S3, and Systems Manager for managing cloud-hosted infrastructure alongside on-premises environments.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) in a media or production environment.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
