Senior Accountant

Overview

Mural is partnering with one of the most unique companies in Cleveland to find their next Senior Accountant. Our client has been operating on the Great Lakes since 1899, and they run a fleet of tugboats across Great Lakes ports and a full-service shipyard that builds and repairs vessels of all kinds. This is not a typical corporate accounting role. You would be supporting financial operations across maritime, manufacturing, machine shop, and shipyard activities. Handling job costing for active vessel and construction projects, fixed assets on tugboats and equipment, union payroll accounting, and full-cycle close for a company with real operational complexity.

This is a new role added to support a new Controller as the organization grows. The team is lean and the ownership is real from day one.

What you will own

General ledger activities, month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, variance analysis against budget and forecast, job cost and WIP tracking across active projects, fixed asset records for vessels and capital equipment, AP and AR support, payroll accounting including labor distribution and union-related costs, and audit and regulatory documentation. You will report directly to the Controller and interact regularly with operations and senior leadership.

What we are looking for

• Active CPA license required

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience; 2-3 years of public accounting as a foundation is preferred, followed by private industry experience

• Stable work history; this client values tenure and will not consider job-hoppers

• Job costing or project-based accounting experience is a genuine differentiator. From construction, shipyard, maritime, manufacturing, or any environment where costs are tracked by job or contract rather than by department

• Advanced Excel proficiency: lookups, conditional formulas, pivot tables

• Based in or willing to commute to Cleveland's west side; this role is fully in-office with no remote or hybrid option
